Review: Wild Frontier Dog Food

Now, more than ever before, pet owners are doing diligent research to make sure they know exactly what is in the food that they are feeding their dogs. The quality of pet food has been put in the spotlight in recent years, due to the ever increasing list of recalls on these products. Wild Frontier Dog Food takes a different approach to canine nutrition, and I wanted to see what this diet is all about.

Wild Frontier Dog FoodWild Frontier Dog Food is based on a wild dog's natural diet. Of course, our domesticated canine companions are decedents of wild dogs. So, some experts believe that our domesticated pets should be eating a diet similar to that of their ancestors.

Research has looked at the effects of a starchy diet for canines and how grains affect a dog's diet. To make a long story short, the jury is still out. Some experts believe an ancestral diet best meets the nutritional needs of domesticated dogs, while others believe that high quality commercial diets made with grains and other ingredients will meet these needs just fine.

No matter which side of the fence you're on, everyone is in agreement that a natural diet is the absolute best way to feed any pet. Avoiding artificial colors, preservatives and dyes is a must when it comes to feeding your dog the very best food. Artificial ingredients should be avoided, no matter which brand of food you decide to feed.

It's important that you learn how to read dog food labels accurately before shopping for pet food. Research the foods that are considering in order to make an educated choice about the diet that will best meet your pet's needs. The best thing that you can do is consult your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist to assist you in making this choice.

Thinking that an ancestral diet would be a good option for your Fido? Wild Frontier Dog Food may be the right choice for your pooch. Keep in mind, consulting your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist is the best way to ensure you choose a diet that will meet your dog's unique nutritional needs.

Wild Frontier Dog Food Review

Wild Frontier Dog Food ReviewAs you can see in my video review, this dog food is available in wet and dry varieties. Wild dogs eat meat and plants, so that's what you'll find in this food. Wild Frontier Dog Food is made with 60% animal ingredients (including organ meat) and 40% plant ingredients.

I was pleased to see that this food includes organ meat. Organ meat is more nutrient dense than muscle meat. Organ meat is loaded with important nutrients like Vitamins A, B, D, E and K. It's also rich in folic acid, copper, iron, magnesium, iodine and phosphorus.

FULL INGREDIENT LIST (Beef & Wild Boar Dry Recipe): Beef, Split Peas, Pork Meal, Chicken Meal, Dried Potatoes, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Tapioca, Fish Meal, Wild Boar, Natural Flavor, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Turkey Liver, Pork Heart, Pork Kidney, Dried Plain Beet Pulp, Pea Protein, Flaxseed, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, DL-Methionine, Salt, Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid (preservatives), Zinc Sulfate, Niacin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Selenium Yeast, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Rosemary Extract

Wild Frontier Dog Food is grain-free with a minimum of 32% crude protein and 16% crude fat.

Wild Frontier Dog FoodI tried the Beef & Wild Boar recipe with my dogs. The first ingredient in this recipe is beef. Every Wild Frontier formula is made with at least 3 protein sources.

As you can see in my video review, both of our dogs love it! I usually only feed them kibble, so the canned food was a great treat for them. In my photo above you can see that I use the canned food as a topper for the kibble.

This Wild Frontier Dog Food is formulated for all adult dogs, and it's also available in a puppy formula. I was also pleased to see that the kibble size is very small. This makes it a good option for our large Labrador and also a good choice for our small Beagle mix. The small kibble size would also be a good fit for senior pets or dogs with dental problems.

As you can see, I don't really have anything bad to say about this dog food. It's a higher quality food than many commercial kibbles. Unfortunately, with higher quality foods comes a higher price tag.

Wild Frontier Dog Food ReviewThis food is available in Beef & Wild Boar, Chicken, Lamb & Venison and Turkey & Duck varieties. You can purchase a 4-pound bag of Wild Frontier Dog Food for $22.99 on Amazon, which is about $5.75 per pound.

Compared to lower quality products that retail for less than $1 per pound, this food is quite expensive. However, you need to remember that you'll get what you pay for. Spending a little more on your dog's nutrition now may save you hundreds of dollars in veterinary care over the years.
