Caring for a dog with an upset stomach can be difficult, especially since most commercial dog foods are made with ingredients that will make the GI problems worse. Some owners opt to feed their pet a homemade bland diet until their digestive tract is back to normal. If you don't have the time for that, Under the Weather Bland Diets for dogs may be just what you need.
Every dog will experience GI issues at some point, and they usually aren't anything to get concerned about. Your dog may not have much of an appetite when he's not feeling well, which is completely normal. However, getting him to eat something is important to getting his health back on track.
Note that if your dog is frequently showing signs of stomach upset, especially if they are accompanied by vomiting and/or diarrhea, he may have a food allergy, be sensitive to specific foods or ingredients, or there might be a medical problem that needs to be addressed with a veterinarian.
A bland diet like this Under the Weather food can help most dogs with an upset stomach. It may also tempt a dog with little or no appetite to eat something. Usually their appetite will come back after a couple of days on a bland diet.
Under the Weather Bland Diets for Dogs Review
As you can see in the photo above, these are freeze dried food mixes. All you have to do is add water, let it sit for about 15 minutes, and you've got a bland meal for your dog. Under the Weather Bland Diets are available in 6 varieties:
- rice, chicken & pumpkin
- rice, hamburger & bone broth
- rice & salmon
- rice & chicken
- rice, turkey & sweet potato
- rice, hamburger & sweet potato
The diets are designed to be gentle on the digestive tract and soothe an upset stomach, while still providing the nutrients your dog needs to keep his strength up. These recipes are NOT nutritionally balanced for long term use. You should only use this food for 1-3 days until your dog is feeling better.
Under the Weather makes many different products for pets that aren't feeling well, including supplements and hemp chews along with these bland diets. I hate it when we have pets that aren't feeling well, and it's even worse when they lose their appetite.
These bland diets have tempted our sick dogs to eat on a number of occasions. I'm assuming the products for cats work just as well, but I haven't tried them with our animals yet.
All ingredients in these bland diets are raised or grown in the United States. They are manufactured in Vermont. The animal protein used has no hormones or antibiotics, and there are no meat by-products, artificial flavors, colors or chemicals. These recipes are also gluten-free.
When our dogs have no appetite, they typically don't drink much either. I always worry about them getting dehydrated. Under the Weather Bland Diets are fortified with electrolytes, for added hydration!
At the time of this review, you can purchase a bag of this dog food on Amazon for $12.99-$14.99. There are about 4 servings per bag for a small dog (under 25 pounds), 3 servings per bag for a medium breed (25-50 pounds) and 2 servings per bag for a larger breed dog (50+ pounds).
The cost per serving is quite high, but you have to remember that you're not going to be feeding this food long term. To me, the value is worth it if the food gets my sick dog eating again and feeling better faster.
