Recipe: Turkey Jerky Dog Treats

Making your own dog treats will save you a lot of money, and you'll know that you are providing your dog with a healthy snack. These turkey jerky dog treats are easy to make and add some great nutritional benefits to your pup's diet.

Commercially made jerky treats for dogs have been some of the most commonly recalled pet products, but they are our Labrador's favorite type of treat. A couple of years ago, I decided to make my own jerky treats for dogs, and we've never looked back!

Not only are these turkey jerky treats healthy, but they are also SO easy to make. They require more time than most dog treat recipes, but that's because you have to bake them for at least 2 hours.

You can use this recipe to make jerky treats with other meats as well. I made these treats with turkey, but you could also use other protein sources, including:

  • beef
  • venison
  • duck
  • chicken
  • bison

…and any other meats approved by your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist.

  • Method: Oven Baked
  • Cuisine: Dog Treats

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup diced parsley
  • 1 lb. leftover turkey meat

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

Slice the turkey into thin strips. They should be about 1/4″ thick. The thicker you slice them, the longer it will take to dehydrate them.

Place the turkey strips in a large bowl, and pour the oil over the top of them. Sprinkle the parsley over the oil.

Shake or mix or until the turkey is evenly coated with the oil and parsley.

Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, and place strips on it. Bake in your 250 degree oven for about 2 hours. The strips are done when they are crispy and crunchy.

Allow the strips to cool completely before serving them to your dog.
