I used some leftover turkey to make these treats. You can use fresh turkey, ground turkey or another protein source if you choose.

You could substitute beef, venison or fish for the turkey, if your dog has a preference. You could also make multiple batches with different protein sources to add some variety to your pet’s snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mashed sweet potato (plain)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups cooked turkey (diced)
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, water and egg. Stir until evenly blended.

Add the turkey and flour and combine until it forms a dough. The dough will be thick and sticky.

Spread the dough onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. It should be about 1/4-1/2″ thick.

Using a butter knife, score the dough into small squares that are appropriately sized for your dog.

Bake the treats for 30 minutes. They will turn golden brown. They will still be slightly moist and soft.

If you’d like the treats to be crunchy, bake them for an additional 20-30 minutes.

Once the treats have completely cooled, you can break them apart on the score lines. You can feed them to your dog sparingly as soon as they have cooled.
