Recipe: Peanut Butter and Parsley Dog Treats

Peanut butter is a great ingredient to add to homemade dog treats. These parsley dog treats include peanut butter to add a tasty nutritional boost to your pup's diet.

Peanut butter is a great source of healthy fats and protein. It is also high in niacin as well as Vitamins B and E.

Be sure to look closely at the ingredients of the peanut butter that you choose. Make sure it does not contain xylitol.

Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol found in certain plants. Dogs absorb xylitol faster than humans, which could result in a dangerous release of a high amount of insulin from the pancreas.

Parsley dog treats are great for freshening your pet's breath. They also add some nutritional value to his diet.

Parsley contains Vitamins A and C. It is also a good source of folic acid and antioxidants.

These homemade dog treats are healthy, and my pets love them. The recipe is easy to make, and very budget friendly!

Peanut Butter and Parsley Dog Treats

I love making homemade treats for all of my pets. Commercial treats are well known for being full of unhealthy, unnecessary ingredients.

Commercial pet treats are often recalled.

If you purchase high quality pet treats made with natural, organic ingredients, that's great! But, those types of treats come with a high price tag.

Homemade dog treats are healthier than most commercial options, and they are much cheaper than top quality commercial products.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup quick oats
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¼ cup parsley (diced)
  • ¼ cup ground flaxseed
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 325°F. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, and set it aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine the almond flour, quick oats, whole wheat flour, baking powder, ground flaxseed, and diced parsley. Mix until well blended.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, egg and water until smooth.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until it forms a dough.

As you can see, I just use my hands to pack the dough into small balls and place them on a cookie sheet.

If you’d prefer to roll the dough out and use cookie cutters to make cute shapes, you can do that too. You'll need to roll the dough out until it’s about 1/4″ thick.

If you want to make small treats for a tiny dog or small treats to use during training, you can roll the dough out and use a pizza cutter or butter knife to score it into tiny squares.

No matter what shape you make them, bake these homemade dog treats for about 15 minutes, until they turn golden brown.

Once the treats have cooled completely, you can serve them to your dog.

They will not last as long. If you'd like, you can freeze these treats in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
