This dog treat recipe contains pumpkin and molasses – two supplements that offer a lot of nutritional benefits to dogs. They are soft, which is great for senior dogs or pets with dental problems. They are also safe and healthy, which will give you the peace of mind found in knowing that you're providing your pet with a quality treat.
Molasses contain calcium, copper, iron Vitamin B6, potassium, manganese, selenium and magnesium. They also contain sugar, so they're not a supplement that should be added to your pet's daily diet. That's why these dog treats are ideal – they offer a way to add this tasty ingredient without going overboard.
Pumpkin is another healthy ingredient that can really benefit your pet's diet. Pumpkin can benefit urinary health and is a good source of protein and carbohydrates. Pumpkin is also chock-full of fiber, which aids in digestive health.
These treats are easy to make and can even be frozen for long-term storage. As you can see in my video guide above, my dogs love these treats! They're soft and have a very appealing odor, which will probably make your dog happy too.

Healthy Pumpkin Cookie Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp. water
- 4 tbsp. molasses
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 2 tbsp. oil (coconut oil is a great choice, but vegetable or canola oil are great too)
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
Preheat your oven to 350°.
First, mix all the wet ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Mix the water, oil, pumpkin and molasses together until they are well blended. Then add the baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon to the mixture.
Once these ingredients are completely blended, add the whole wheat flour. Stir it all together until it forms a sticky dough.
One of the tips I share in my video guide above is that it is easier to roll these dough balls with wet hands. Just wet your hands and roll small ping pong-sized balls of dough. Place the dough balls on a greased cookie sheet.
Once you've filled the cookie sheet, flatten the balls with a fork. I demonstrate how to do this in my video guide as well. Bake the cookies in a 350° oven for about 25 minutes.
You can freeze the dough before cooking for long-term storage. It will keep in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 3 months. If you choose to bake the cookies, store the extras in an airtight container at room temperature for 7-10 days.
