PetPlate Dog Food Delivery Service Review
As you can see in the photos above, this freshly cooked dog food comes in pre-portioned containers. The containers are small plastic bowls with airtight lids. Depending on your dog's size, he will either eat an entire container per serving or half of a container per serving.
In the photo below, you can see that the meals are shipped in a box with dry ice and lots of insulation. This ensures that they stay cold until you receive them. You can store PetPlate Dog Food in the refrigerator for up to 10 days or freeze it for up to 18 months. However, it will only keep in the refrigerator for about 3 days after you open the lid.
These dog food meals are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist based on your dog's age and weight (up to 100 pounds).
It is made with USDA meat & fish, fresh fruits & veggies and a proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals. You only get your choice of two beef or turkey as your protein source, which may not work for dogs with food allergies.
PetPlate Dog Food has no artificial ingredients, rendered meats, by-products, bone meal or harmful preservatives. These food recipes are made in the USA in a USDA certified human-grade facility. They also meet the AAFCO nutrient profiles for all life stages including the growth of large breed pups that will weigh more than 70 pounds as adults.
PetPlate's website states that all of their products are tested for USDA and FDA standards before leaving the facility. And, their packaging is 100% recyclable.
A full plan of PetPlate Dog Food will deliver 14 meals (per dog) weekly. The price will vary based on your dog's size and how much food he will require each day. Our Labrador, Saddie, weighs 70-pounds and it costs $69.95 for one week (14 meals) of food for her.
Our Beagle, Molly, weighs 30-pounds, and it cost $85.90 for 2 weeks (28 meals) of PetPlate Dog Food for her. Doing the math, that is about $5 per meal for Saddie and $3.07 per meal for Molly.
As you can tell, that is very expensive.
But, if you're looking for a dog food delivery service that provides fresh meals made with high-quality ingredients, than you should be expecting a higher price tag. Obviously, better quality ingredients cost more, and running a safe facility that meets rigorous standards isn't cheap either.
That added overhead means PetPlate needs to charge more for their food than manufacturers that use low-quality ingredients and have their foods manufactured in factories in other countries. Aside from the high price, the only other drawback that I can see is that PetPlate only delivers to the 48 continental United States. But, that could change as the company grows.
