Having a spot inside where your puppy can use the bathroom may sound foolish, but it's actually a good idea. While you're potty training there will be times when he can't hold it and has to relieve himself inside. Putting pee pads or a PAW Puppy Potty Trainer out for him will save your floors from stains and odors.
Pee pads are a very simple design, but potty trainers like this from PETMAKER take it one step further. They use a form of artificial turf to make your Fido feel like he's urinating on your front lawn.
Instead of a simple pad that soaks up the urine, these products have a shallow base tray that can hold upwards of 10 cups of liquid. Unlike pee pads, you can't just throw them away after use, so they're less convenient. But, the PAW Puppy Potty Trainer is much more eco-and budget-friendly.
House training a puppy isn't something that will happen over night. Your pup is bound to have a few accidents before he gets the hang of it. Without something to hold the urine it will soak into your floor, resulting in stinky odors and unsightly stains.

PETMAKER PAW Puppy Potty Trainer Review
This potty training tool gives your dog somewhere to go when you can’t take him outside, but it's obviously a much more extravagant design than a traditional puppy training pee pad.
The potty trainer uses a three layer system that includes a synthetic grass mat, a plastic insert that allows the liquid to drain into the tray, and the base tray to hold the liquid.
The mat is odor resistant and non-toxic.
The artificial turf mat is made of an odor resistant and antimicrobial material that gives off an organic scent. The scent attracts your dog, which means house training him to use the potty trainer won't take very long.
I put the indoor toilet system in corner of our living room and placed our Beagle puppy on it a few times each day. On the 4th day I left the house for the afternoon. When I came home she had gone on the PAW Puppy Potty Trainer!
Other potty trainers like this one are equipped with a drain that allows you to empty the waste without a mess. Unfortunately, the PAW Puppy Potty Trainer doesn't offer that feature, but it is easily cleaned with soap and hot water.
After our dog used it, I found it easiest to empty it outside and spray it down with the hose. Then I took it inside and washed it. This is a lot more hassle than picking up a disposable pee pad and tossing it in the trash.
COMPARISON: Best Potty Training Pads Comparison – All Absorb vs. AmazonBasics vs. PAW Puppy Potty Trainer
This product does offer some advantages over traditional puppy training pads, though. You can buy about 100 pee pads for the price of one of these potty trainers. That might seem like a lot, but considering that your puppy will probably use the bathroom more than 10 times each day, you'll go through a lot of pee pads before he's completely toilet trained!
The dimensions of my puppy potty trainer are 20″ x 25″ and the tray is 1.25 inches tall. You can buy a smaller version as well that measures 16″ x 20″ x 1.25.” The medium size retails on Amazon for about $27 and the smaller version is available for $26.
Instead of buying box after box of puppy pee pads, you can just purchase one PAW Puppy Potty Trainer. Yes, you'll have to clean it daily, but it will save you a lot of money in the long run.
