Making homemade dog treats is a great way to provide your pet with a healthy snack that you can feel good about. You have complete control over the ingredients you use, and you can cater them to your Fido's needs and wants.
Most dogs love the flavor of peanut butter, and banana is a great compliment to add to peanut butter dog treat recipes. Bananas are a good source of manganese, potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, fiber, copper and biotin. They are also low in cholesterol and sodium.
Like most fruits, bananas due contain a high level of sugar. For this reason they should only be eaten as treats. In excess bananas can also cause constipation. Adding them to some of your homemade dog treat recipes is a wonderful way to give your pet the benefits of this fruit without the drawbacks.

Peanut Butter and Banana Cookies for Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 peeled banana
- 1 cup oat flour
- 2/3 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup dried parsley
- 3 tbsp. peanut butter
- 1 beaten egg
Directions:
Before mixing the ingredients, preheat your oven to 300°.
Begin by mashing the banana in a medium-sized mixing bowl. I use a rubber spatula in my video guide, but a potato masher or fork also work well. Then add the rest of the ingredients and stir until the mixture forms a doughy ball.
The dough is going to be quite sticky, thanks to the peanut butter and banana. If it's too sticky to work with, add a little more oat flour. Then you'll need to break off small pieces of the dough, and roll them into small balls (about the size of ping pong balls).
Place the balls on a wax paper or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. There are no rising agents in the recipe, so you can place the cookies close together as they will not rise and stick together during baking.

Press the balls flat with your fingers or the underside of a spoon. You'll want to press them down until they are about 1/4″ thick. If they aren't flat enough these dog cookies will not cook all the way through.
You'll cook them for about 40 minutes in a 300° oven. You'll know when they are done because they'll turn golden brown on top. Once these peanut butter and banana dog cookies are cooled, you can serve them to your pooch.
Because homemade dog treats do not contain preservatives, they don't last as long as store bought products. You'll need to refrigerate these treats in an airtight container and they'll last for about 14 days.
You can also freeze the dough before baking, and it will last 8-10 weeks in the freeze. Just roll the balls and place them on the cookie sheet as stated above, then freeze them.
When the balls are frozen you can place them in an airtight container for storage in the freezer. When you're ready to bake them just place them back on a cookie sheet, let them thaw and then bake as indicated.
