Dogs have been prominent characters in Disney movies for generations. They’ve been the main character and the main characters best friend. Disney dogs have worn clothes, had all sorts of fancy accessories, and even used a bunch of cool gadgets. Now the company is putting their magic into a new line of dog products for the Disney lover’s pup.
Yesterday the company announced that they will be launching a line of pet products for our canine companions. The line will be debuted sometime this spring, but no exact date was given. Although Disney’s pet products have been sold for over seven years, they will finally be available at their parks again in the near future.

Disney Consumer Products actually began supporting the pet industry over seven years ago. Their products range from collars, leashes, and apparel to bowls and chew toys. The company prides itself on integrating technology into the product development done by their licensees.
Disney even offers pet I.D. tags with QR code technology. This means that if your dog is lost anyone who finds them can simply scan the QR code with their smartphone and your pet’s information will be available instantly. Even more innovative is the GPS feature that will send an email to the pet owner saying their dog has been found and include the exact location where the tag was scanned.
Pet food represents about 70 percent of Disney’s overall revenue from their pet line. Recently, Disney Consumer Products launched a line of dog products at PetSmart. The line includes apparel featuring famous Disney characters like Kermit the Frog and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Now, as part of a new program called “Disney Tails,” guests of Disney theme parks will be able to purchase merchandise for their pets in gift stores and at kiosks. The items will not only be available in Disney parks, but also through their online retail store as well.
Nicole Brann, merchandiser for souvenirs at Disney, says that the company carried a line of pet products at their parks back in the mid-2000s and they are now reintroducing it since the pet market is expanding so quickly.
The line will feature apparel including bows and neckties, as well as chew toys including one shaped like Mickey’s iconic ears. Brann says that the initial small assortment will focus strictly on dog products since that is what is most popular with consumers.
