An incredibly fortunate dog survived after someone shot him and left him for dead in the Arizona desert.
Meet Lucky. This dog could go by no other name after the harrowing events he survived.
Under unknown circumstances, Lucky was taken out into an extremely remote desert of Arizona, shot in the head, and left for dead.
By some miracle, Lucky survived the bullet to the head. But he wasn’t supposed to survive being abandoned alone in the hot desert.
Luckily, a Border Patrol agent was making his way through the area when he found the dog. Upon finding Lucky, the agent spotted a big mark on his forehead but couldn’t figure out what it was.
The agent then took Lucky to the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) in Bisbee, Arizona. There, a traveling vet took some X-rays, and they discovered with horror that the mark on Lucky’s forehead was actually a bullet wound.
The 9 mm bullet got put between Lucky’s eyes and made its way through his skull. It is embedded in his jaw. Lucky was taken to a nearby veterinary facility for treatment upon this discovery.
The indentation can still be felt between Lucky’s eyes. AAWL member Michael Moorefield says it’s unbelievable that this traumatic injury didn’t affect Lucky.
It is currently unknown how Lucky wound up in such an unlucky situation. But it appears that Lucky had some serious guardian angels that day.

The playful pup has actually been adopted out from the AAWL twice. He is described as an escape artist who requires fencing in his next home.
Even though he endured much terror and pain during his recent experience, Lucky has moved right on past that trauma and has resumed being the playful and lovable dog he was before the incident.
Lucky is described as playful, energetic, and good with children. He is an American English Coonhound.
It seems that Lucky was spared 2 horrible deaths right in a row by some divine intervention – perhaps this means he is destined for a wonderful life ahead!
At only 1 year and 3 months old, this dog is barely past being a puppy and has a lot of years ahead of him to make up for the horrific near-death experience he had.
Hopefully, the shelter and local authorities do what they can to investigate the previous adopters to try to determine just who committed this awful assault.
And hopefully, they can screen adopters with much scrutiny this time around to ensure that Lucky’s next home is truly his forever home, with kind owners who help him forget all about the rough road he has traveled.
