Review: Isle of Dogs Nourish Treats, Chews and Supplements

Every pet owner feeds their canine companion a treat from time to time. Some of us treat our dogs every day, while others use treats sparingly as a reward for a job well done. No matter how often you give Fido a treat, you need to be sure that you're feeding him something that is healthy, safe and offers some nutritional benefits. Do Isle of Dogs Nourish products meet these criteria?

Many commercial dog treats are made with artificial ingredients and fillers that do not provide any nutritional value to your pet. While they may make your dog happy, that's the only thing that they offer.

Wouldn't you rather feed your pup a snack that will benefit his overall health and well-being? Serving treats that offer a high-quality source of protein, vitamins, and minerals will make Fido happy and give his body the nutrients that it needs.

Isle of Dogs is a company that prides itself on creating healthy products for dogs, and they've released a new line of treats, chews, and supplements. I researched the company and was pleased with the listed ingredients on their dog treats in particular. Did my dogs like them? You'll have to read below or watch the video to find out!

Isle of Dogs Nourish Review

Isle of Dogs Nourish Treats, Chews and SupplementsJerky Bites

As you can see, these jerky bites are small enough to be used as training treats or fed to teacup breeds. I feed our Labrador a few at a time, so it's a little less convenient than a treat made specifically for large dogs, but it's not a deal breaker.

You can get these treats in lamb or beef flavor. Both are made with ingredients sourced in New Zealand. They are also raised with humanely-raised meats. They are air-dried at low temperatures to preserve the meat without having to use any artificial preservatives.

Nourish Jerky Bites are made with all-natural ingredients and are 100% grain-free, which means they are a great choice for pets with sensitive stomachs or food allergies. I received the lamb flavor to review, and the ingredients include:

Ingredients: Lamb, Lamb Lung, Lamb Liver, Vegetable Glycerine, Rosemary, Green Lipped Mussel, Mixed Tocopherols

Not only do our dogs love these treats, they're a hit with our cats too! They may be too expensive for some pet owners' budget, but you have to remember that they're also made with higher quality ingredients. A 3.5-ounce package will cost you about $8.99.

Isle of Dogs Nourish Treats, Chews and SupplementsDental Dog Chews

Isle of Dogs Nourish Dental Chews for dogs are also grain free, and offer pet parents an easy way to help keep plaque and tartar from building up on their pet's teeth in between brushings. These are also made in the USA with natural ingredients.

The outer layer is grooved and contains triple-action Pecodent, which is a blend of finely ground pecan shell, turmeric extract and kelp. This ingredient works to scrape plaque and debris from the teeth and the tumeric and kelp also help to freshen Fido's breath.

The outer layer is chewy, which helps to remove plaque from the teeth. As you'll see in my video review, there is also an interior layer that is specifically made to aid in overall dental and oral health in canines.

Ingredients: Potato Flour, Potato Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Ground Pecan Shell**, Sunflower Lecithin, Dried Chicken Liver, Whey Protein Concentrate, Dried Parsley, Lactic Acid, Sorbic Acid (preservative), Sodium Benzoate (preservative), Dried Kelp, Rosemary Oil, Clove Oil, Turmeric, and Peppermint Oil

The chews in my review are the medium size, for dogs weighing 25-50 pounds. As you can see, it takes our Beagle a few minutes to eat one. They're not made for dogs as large as our Labrador, so she hogged hers down quickly. Isle of Dogs Nourish Dental Chews are also available in a small size for dogs weighing 5-25 pounds and a large size for dogs weighing more than 50 pounds.

$20 will get you a bag of 16 chews. If you do the math, that's $1.25 per chew. I know that's a bit pricey for pet owners on a budget, but it's comparable to Greenies and other high-quality dog dental chews.

Isle of Dogs Nourish Treats, Chews and SupplementsDaily Fix Nutritional Supplement

You can buy this daily liquid supplement in three different formulas:

  • Skin + Coat Formula
  • Joint Formula
  • Calming Formula

I received the calming formula for this review. Our Labrador has a fear of thunderstorms and she gets anxious for vet and grooming visits as well. This formula did help calm her. It didn't make her 100% calm, as I could she was still a little uneasy. But, it did stop her panting and pacing.

Ingredients per pump (2.2 ml): Active ingredients – *FlavoColTM (25 mg), Valerian Root (20 mg), Thiamine (6 mg), Tryptophan (2 mg), Vitamin B12 (1.5 mcg), Bacillus coagulans (20 million colony forming units) *FlavoCol™ is a proprietary blend of Flavonoid and Colostrum. Inactive ingredients – Canola Oil, Fish Oil, and Mixed Tocopherols.

All three Isle of Dogs Nourish supplement formulas also have probiotics to support healthy digestion. All of the formulas also include fish oil, which is beneficial for skin and coat health as well as healthy brain function and development. These supplements are also made in the USA.

I like the pump action bottle, because it makes it very easy to squirt a few pumps on your dog's food during each meal. If you turn the pump to the side, it will lock in place so you don't have to worry about accidentally squirting the oil when you don't intend to.

None of these products are available on Amazon yet, though some other Isle of Dogs products are. You can purchase all of them on the company's website. An 8-ounce bottle of Isle of Dogs Nourish liquid supplement will cost you $30, so it's not the most affordable daily supplement for the average dog owner.
