It's only recently that the world’s favorite affordable flatpack furniture store IKEA began carrying pet-specific furniture, and a collective sigh of relief could be heard by dog owners on a budget around the country.

- What We Think…
As you will soon see, all IKEA dog furniture is made in the single line, Lurvig. This brand manufactures IKEA dog bed, bowls, food mats, pillows and more. So today we’re taking a look at a few of the best IKEA dog furniture pieces in their new product line that are worth checking out if you’re in the market for another piece of doggy furniture.
Is IKEA Dog Friendly?
No, IKEA is not dog friendly. That is to say, you cannot walk around the store with your pet, unfortunately. That also includes small dogs in bags which you cannot bring with you while shopping. So if you were hoping to try some of those IKEA dog houses and were wondering, are dogs allowed in IKEA, don't hold your breath as due to the store's size, it's unlikely this rule is going to change any time soon.
However, while dogs are not allowed in IKEA stores, similar to “kid parking” there's also “dog parking,” a special designated area outside IKEA where you can leave your pet while shopping. It's isolated, has rails for attaching the dog and some grass patches.
The only exception to IKEA's pets rule are assistance animals like guide dogs, which are allowed into IKEA stores, but they must be on a leash, clearly designated to be guide dogs and wear an assistance dog vest.

Lurvig Cat/Dog Bed
Price: $49.99

The Lurvig's IKEA dog bed is the first choice because it's IKEA furniture the way we know it. A sleek modern yet basic design, the bed measures 26 ¾” x 27 ½” and has a removable cover that makes washing easy. The interior of the bed is made from polyurethane foam and the cover is made from 100% polyester. We liken this one to the pullout toddler couches that you can pick up at most mega-stores, but the cover is washable and isn’t attached to the bed, so it can be interchanged to switch things up a bit. It's one of the more popular IKEA dog furniture pieces that's currently out.
Lurvig Pet Bed with a Pad
Price: $29.99 – $39.99
Get it here
Another Lurvig IKEA dog bed with a pad is available in 12” x 18 ¼” and 17 ½” x 27 ¼”. While the base of the bed is only available in white, the pad of the bed is available in green/white, gray, orange, orange/white, white, and black/white. The cover of the pad is removable and you can also grab a completely new pad for around $20 from IKEA when it needs replacing. The frame of the bed is made from wood and we like how sturdy it is for small, medium, and small large breeds. We’re hoping at some point that this bed frame will become available in colors other than white, but overall this is an affordable and solid solution for raised sleeping for your pooch.
Lurvig Pet Pillow Cushion
Price: $24.99
Get it here
The Lurvig pet pillow cushion is available as a 4” x 11” or 4 ¾” x 17 ¼” version. A long and narrow pillow, this makes the perfect addition to the Lurvig pet bed as a headrest pillow. This pillow is made from 100% polyester and we love that it’s soft to the touch. The one thing that we don’t like about this IKEA dog furniture piece though is that it’s not as durable as we’d like it to be, so if you have a chewer, this isn’t the pillow for them.
Lurvig Pet Bed Cushion
Price: $5 – $19.99

The Lurvig pet bed cushion is designed to fit in the range of Lurvig pet bed options, some of which are mentioned on this list of IKEA dog furniture, so it comes in 13” x 15”, 11 ¾” x 19”, 18” x 29 ¼”, and 24 ½” x 39 ¼”. There is a nice range of cushion colors to choose from including black/white, gray, green/white, orange, orange/white, and white. The cover of the cushion is made from 100% polyester and it is waterproof plus it’s completely removable for easy washing whenever your Fido spoils it.
Lurvig Pet Bed Cushion Cover
Price: $3.99 – $4.99

The Lurvig pet bed cushion cover is slightly confusing at first glance. Since everything in this pet collection IKEA dog furniture line is referred to as “Lurvig” it seems as though this is a replacement cover for the Lurvig bed, but it's not – this is actually a “make your own IKEA dog bed” solution. These covers measure 13 ¾” x 20 ½” and 20” x 30” and are designed for you to fill with your own cushion filler, blankets, towels, or your own clothing to create a comfortable bed for your pup. We love the idea of using clothing to stuff these covers because it provides a comforting scent for pups who are prone to anxiety.
Lurvig Pet Blanket
Price: $19.99
Get it here
The Lurvig pet blanket isn’t a piece of IKEA dog furniture like others, but it's a stylish complement to the Lurvig IKEA dog bed options. Measuring 39 ¼” x 59” this blanket is made from 100% polyester and is filled with polyester wadding. There are a few things that we really love about this blanket, firstly, it’s water-resistant which is always a plus! Secondly, push buttons (snaps) are sewn into the blanket so that you can fold the blanket in on itself to make it smaller or you can buy multiple blankets and snap them together. By far this is our favorite addition to the IKEA pet product family even though it’s not technically “IKEA dog furniture”.
Lurvig Slow Feed Bowl
Price: $4.99
Get it here
The Lurvig slow feed bowl is amazingly priced at $4.99 and holds up to 41 oz. Slow feed bowls have many benefits for dogs, but can sometimes be expensive, going upwards of $20+ on Amazon or elsewhere. You can pick up this bowl at IKEA in white, green, or black. The bowl is made from polypropylene and synthetic rubber and has a mound in the center to slow down fast eaters. While we love the price point and the slow feed option, we aren’t big on non-stainless-steel dog feeders, however. We find stainless to be the cleanest and best option for dog food and water bowls.
Lurvig Cat Bed/House (for Small Dogs)
Price: $5.99 – $19.99
Get it here
We don’t recommend this one for dogs bigger than toy breeds, but if your pup is about the size of a housecat then this specific Lurvig IKEA dog furniture piece might be a good option for you. The cat house is made from a hard cardboard frame covered with polyester and it folds up easily for travel. The smaller house measures 13” x 15” x 13” and can fit into most cubby units and the larger unit measures 15” x 15” x 14 5/8”. You can fill this one with blankets for a cozy nest for your burrower or you can purchase a Lurvig pad to cover the bottom of the house like a mat. The cardboard structure of this house means it’s not perfect for chewers or for dogs who have accidents in the house, but for a part-time cuddle house, it’s an affordable and visually pleasing option.
Lurvig Stainless Steel Pet Bowl
Price: $3.99
Get it here
Yet another item that's not really IKEA dog furniture but something you may want to save the money in exchange for quality, the Lurvig stainless steel pet bowl is available in a 10 oz. and 27 oz. option. The base of the doggy bowl is coated with silicone rubber to stop it from slipping and sliding too much while your dog is eating. This is a pretty simple stainless steel bowl, but it comes at a great price and is made of quality materials.
Lurvig Small Cat/Dog House
Price: $10.99 – $24.99
Get it here
Once again, although it’s marketed for cats, if you have a small dog who loves to “hide” or burrow, this is the perfect cozy IKEA dog bed choice. The smaller house is 13” x 15” x 13” and the larger is 15” x 15” x 14 5/8”. The inner pad can be washed. The house itself is made from solid cardboard with a 100% polyester cover and the cushion inside is made from 100% polyester. This is a great lightweight and affordable small dog bed option for your tiny pooch, but if your pup has any trouble with holding their bladder, we definitely don’t recommend this one since the structure of the house is made with cardboard.
Lurvig Plastic Pet Bowl
Price: $0.79 – $4.99
Get it here
It seems among the IKEA dog furniture and other items recently released, pet bowls are one of the most popular that owners now purchase. The Lurvig plastic pet bowl is available in 10 oz., 24 oz, 27 oz., and 54 oz. Colors include black, green, and white and the base of the polypropylene bowl is coated in synthetic rubber to prevent it from slipping. Although fairly basic, these doggy bowls are pretty affordable and worth grabbing if you’re picking up other pet furniture at IKEA, but keep in mind, plastic isn’t the best option for pet food bowls as I have mentioned above.
Lurvig Pet Travel Bag
Price: $24.99
Get it here
The new IKEA dog furniture line also includes a pet travel bag that is suited for your small breed dogs as well as cats. The bag measures 19 ¾” x 12 ½” x 13 ¾” and is made with a synthetic rubber bottom, polyethylene foam side padding, and a 100% polyester cover. The mesh front and rear secure with a zipper and lets your pup see out so they know what’s going on no matter where they’re headed. The carrier also has a window on the top and side so you can peek in and see what you’re pup is up to. We like the generous space in this carrier and the double ended doors, but it is important to know that you cannot carry on this bag if you plan on flying, it’s just too large!
Lurvig Food Placemat
Price: $0.99
Get it here
The Lurvig food place-mat measures 13” x 13” and comes in black and white. Made from polypropylene, the mat wipes clean with a damp cloth and keeps your floors protected from scratching and moisture in the event of spills. Considering there's a number of other dog feeding mats available elsewhere, this is by far the cheapest option you can find.
Lurvig Food Placemat with Rim
Price: $2.99
Get it here
Another Lurvig pet feeding placemat, this one comes with a rim that measures 13” x 13” and comes in white, black, and green. Designed to keep dog food bowls in place, this mat also has a lip around the edge to stop spills from going outside the food mat area. Made of polypropylene, this food mat protects the floor, but what we love is that it doesn’t absorb water so it doesn’t expose your wood floors to constant wetness.
What We Think…
After reviewing the IKEA dog furniture options and other pet supplies available in their newest pet line Lurvig, we find ourselves on the fence. IKEA is always a great option for affordable furniture and now they carry affordable pet furniture too, our only qualm is that their offerings are few and those that they do have just don’t seem as durable as we would like.
That said, if you’re an IKEA furniture kind of family and you are looking for cheaper pet furniture that you can afford to switch out regularly, the Lurvig line of products might be right for you. IKEA dog bed options are decent and there's a number of other IKEA dog furniture choices that might be worth their price tag.
So why are we torn if we aren’t that fond of the durability of IKEA's Lurvig pet line? Because while durability is a prominent factor for us when choosing any pet furniture, not everyone has the same priority. If your biggest concern is budget but you’re looking for a step up from “Made in China” furniture made with questionable materials, then the Lurvig line is worth checking out.
