The Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) rescued 41 dogs and puppies from inhumane conditions on February 28.

HSMO's Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACT) saved mixed-breed dogs and puppies. Some of them are only several weeks old.

ACT saved these dogs from a hoarder's property in Newton County, near Joplin, Missouri.

Thanks to the Newton County Sheriff's Office, the HSMO was made aware of the situation and was able to help these dogs.

Fortunately, the owner agreed to surrender custody of the dogs to HSMO once the ACT arrived. The owner admitted to the task force that the animal never received medical care.

They found trash, rusted machinery, and run-down vehicles to which the dogs were confined. One dog was even limping since it had been hit by a car within the last 24 hours.

Seeing the horrific conditions these animals were living under, I’m so grateful we were able to intervene. But their rescue is only half the battle,” HSMO President Kathy Warnick stated.

Now that the animals are safe in our care, we can begin the equally important work of rehabilitation and finding their forever homes.”

The Humane Society of Missouri defined the dogs as “filthy, many with matted fur, and extremely fearful.”

The dogs were examined and treated at HSMO's Macklind Ave Headquarters. Here, every dog's health will be given proper medication.

According to the HSMO, the rescued pups will be ready for adoption after rehabilitation and proper medical care.

Every year, HSMO's staff works hard to hold people accountable for animal abuse in the St. Louis Metropolitan region and other surrounding areas of Missouri.

Their team is filled with professional animal cruelty investigators. They travel over 350,000 miles, respond to over 10,000 reports, and rescue over 20,000 animals annually.

Furthermore, you can report abandoned, neglected, abused, or suffering animals to the local police or the Humane Society of Missouri's Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314-647-4400.
