KONG dog toys have earned a great reputation and are well-known for their durability.
Experts in the veterinary and dog training fields often recommend these toys to pet owners who have trouble finding chew toys that will stand up to aggressive chewers.
If you're wondering how to stuff a KONG dog toy, the answer is simple!
Stuffing these toys provides more stimulation for your pet. A stuffed KONG will keep your pup entertained for hours.
You can stuff them with a variety of different treats and ingredients depending on your dog's preferences and dietary needs.
Some dog owners think that inexpensive dog toys are a good way to save a little money, but buying cheap toys that may be unsafe could actually cost you more in the long run.
KONG toys are considered one of the safest dog toys because they're durable, and pieces won't break off, causing a choking hazard.
How To Stuff A KONG Dog Toy
Stuffing a KONG toy is easy. In fact, you can use any hard rubber dog toy that has a hole in the bottom. As you can see me demonstrate in my video guide above, all you need is a malleable substance, like peanut butter or yogurt, and a butter knife. I use the knife to stuff the ingredients into the toy and pack it in.
You can use one ingredient or multiple. Some of my favorite ingredients to use when learning how to stuff a KONG dog toy include:
- peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
- plain yogurt
- canned pumpkin
- applesauce
- fruit or vegetable purees
- mashed banana
You could also use commercial treat mixes. KONG even makes their Easy Treat dog treat mix in a convenient spray bottle to make it easy to fill their toys. You can also find peanut butter products and other dog-specific “stuffable treats” at your local pet store.
To make it even more fun for your pet, you can add small dog treats or chunks of fruits and vegetables to the mix. Dog training treats work well, or you could also use apple chunks, blueberries, peas, green bean pieces, or chopped squash.
If you need a way to keep your pooch cool in the summer or you just want the stuffed KONG to last a little bit longer, I recommend freezing the stuffed toy overnight. It takes longer for your dog to access the food inside if it's frozen.
