Potty training a pet can be frustrating. It takes consistency, patience, and the drive to succeed. The effort will be worth it though, once you no longer have to follow your Fido around the house wondering how long it has been since his last drink of water. There are many training aids available to make the job easier, but none of them make it as simple as this device from PetSafe.
The Train ‘n Praise Potty Training System makes potty training your pet a breeze. You don’t even have to be home to housetrain your dog anymore. It pairs an absorbent pee pad with an automated treat dispenser. When your dog pees on the replaceable pee pad, the moisture sets off the internal sensor in the pad. The sensor wirelessly sends a signal to the treat dispenser and your dog is rewarded for his good deed.
The pee pads are equipped with a leak-proof bottom layer to keep your floors clean and dry. They are made of 6 layers for ultimate protection from leaks. The pad control unit attaches to the pee pads quickly and easily when you need to change them. You can add up to 10 pee pads and clips to the same treat dispenser to increase the potty training area.
The system also includes a handheld remote, so after your pet has successfully completed his potty training, you could use it as a tool for obedience training as well. For example, if your dog always jumps on people when they come to the door, you could set the device next to the door and reward your dog for not jumping. The remote works from up to 25 feet away. The dispenser also emits an optional audible tone when treats are being dispensed so your dog will hear it if he’s not looking right at it.
I love this product because it uses positive reinforcement to train your dog. I am leery about the constant reward with dog treats though. When training your dog he will require rewards a lot and this dispenser releases a handful of treats at a time. I would either use kibble instead, or mix the use of the automated treat dispenser with praise and pats to cut down on the dog’s calorie intake. If you reward him 10 times a day and each time he gets a handful of treats, he’ll be packing on the extra pounds in no time.
