This time of year it's nice to give your dog a cool treat to help beat the summer heat. Frozen treats are a great way to give your pup some top quality nutrition while also helping to cool him down. Our dogs love these fast and simple frozen ‘pupcakes' and so do our dogs!
As you'll see in my video, I usually add fruits and vegetables to my mix before freezing these treats. There are many fruits and veggies that are healthy for dogs, including:
- pumpkin
- apples
- blueberries
- carrots
- strawberries
- raspberries
- pineapple
- pears
- cucumbers
…and many more. Adding these to your frozen pupcakes will give your Fido the nutrition he needs in a convenient snack.
Homemade Frozen ‘Pupcakes' Dog Treats With Fruits and Vegetables
Ingredients
- 32 ounces of plain yogurt
- 1 cup of peanut butter
- fruits and vegetables of your choice (just make sure they are safe for dogs)
- cupcake papers
Directions
These are some of the most simple dog treats you'll ever make. First, you'll need to put the peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl and heat it for about 1 minute, or until soft. Stir it every 20 minutes to smooth out all the clumps.
Once the peanut butter is softened, scrape it into a large mixing bowl and add the yogurt. Stir the two ingredients together until completely mixed. The mixture will not be smooth. You will notice lumps of peanut butter. It will look similar to the consistency of cottage cheese.

Now, you can either fill the cupcake papers with this mixture by itself or add fruits and vegetables to the pupcakes. Either way your dog will enjoy the treat! If adding fruits and veggies, you can either mix them all in with the peanut butter and yogurt mixture or add them individually to each pupcake. You'll see an example in my video.
Pupcakes do make a bit of a mess, so I have my girls eat them outside or put them in a bowl if I have to feed the dogs inside.
Also, I mention in my video that you have the ability to control just how healthy these homemade dog treats are. I make my frozen pupcakes with all-natural, organic peanut butter and organic yogurt. These ingredients are a bit more expensive, so if you can't afford them just buy the best quality ingredients that your budget allows.
Once you've filled all your cupcake papers, simply place the pupcakes in the freezer to sit. I usually remove them from the cupcake trays when they are frozen and place them in an airtight container or resealable zipper bag. These pupcakes will last for a few weeks in your freezer.
