Tina, a female Spaniel cross dog found straying in a South Yorkshire town, is now under the care of a foster family and is making progress, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or RSPCA.
The nutritional-deficit puppy is estimated to be around 6 to 7 months old and only weighs only half its expected weight.
“Despite Tina's emaciated condition, she's a bright and loving little character,” said deputy chief inspector Sara Jordan.
“The vet who examined her was very surprised by her bright demeanor, given she only weighed 6.2kg and probably should have been two or even three times that.”
The RSPCA has appealed to anyone with any information about Tina.
Deputy Jordan, who is investigating the incident, suspects that Tina must have had someone who “loved her at some point as she is the sweetest pup.”
“She came to us wearing a red collar which was hanging off — the assumption is that it will have fitted her at some point and then she's lost weight.”
It can be remembered when Tina was found by a concerned member of the public on May 30 in Skellow, South Yorkshire whose fur was stained with urine and feces and smelled strongly of ammonia.
Tina was initially taken to the RSPCA’s Doncaster, Rotherham & District animal center in Bawtry and later transported to Peak Vets in Sheffield for assessment and treatment.
