Incredibly talented dog in Russia helps owner plow fields, fetch water, harvest crops, and more.

There is a dog out there who has been trained by his owner to perform various “two-legged” tasks to maintain their farm.

Lemon, a giant Schnauzer in Omsk, Russia, has been helping his owner farm since he was just a pup. His owner, 48-year old Aleksandr Matytsin, is a former military dog trainer who first met Lemon when the pup was just 10 months old. Matytsin immediately recognized Lemon’s talent, and the pair have been doing incredible things together ever since.

Matytsin has managed to train Lemon to do many jobs requiring the dog to stand on two legs. Lemon can plow fields, fetch water from a pump, carry buckets of water, carry logs, and collect harvested crops. It seems that there is little this canine cannot do!

Lemon is a sight to see when at work, and is considered a celebrity in their small village of Tara. Matytsin is fortunate to have such a unique farm aid (who doesn’t demand a salary!), and Lemon seems extremely happy in his role helping his master.

Matytsin first recognized Lemon’s willingness to lend a helping hand when he was chopping firewood one day and Lemon began to deliver the logs directly to him by dropping them off at his feet. After that, Lemon delivered a bucket when Matytsin needed water.

He seemed to really understand his owner’s needs and wanted to fulfill them. It was then that Matytsin understood that he should train Lemon to do even more helpful things.

Matytsin reports that Lemon’s favorite activity is carrying buckets of water. Matytsin says that this is extremely helpful, as Lemon manages to deliver about 25 liters of water after only a few trips.

Lemon is rewarded with treats from time to time, but Matytsin observes that the dog seems to find the work a reward enough in and of itself. He tries to do everything his owner does.

Not everything is possible for Lemon, as dogs are of course built differently than humans. But he never ceases to be eager to try!

Lemon is just doing what he instinctively already knows how to do; giant Schnauzers (standing around 2 feet tall when fully grown) have been used for centuries as working dogs. Lemon takes what is already in his biology, but surpasses instinct with an extra little bit of eagerness to learn and to please his master.

Lemon truly exemplifies the term “man’s best friend.” Not only is he constantly by his owner’s side, but he improves the life of Matytsin by constantly helping him do his crucial daily tasks, and asks for nothing in return except love. And treats, of course.
