Dog missing from Powys found after an eight-month search. Jazz, a Cocker Spaniel, was found 50 miles away from home.
Emma Darling and her family have been on a non-stop search for their dog Jazz, a Cocker Spaniel, for eight months.
“Jazz just disappeared that day. At first, we thought she had got out, but she had never done that before,” said Ms Darling.
“The next day we started to think maybe she had been stolen as she hadn't come back.”
Ms. Darling and her family were determined to search for Jazz's whereabouts.
The Darling family went around displaying posters and even social media posts to circulate regarding Jazz and their information.
“The first three months I literally trawled missing and stolen dog social media groups and selling sites, and shared the dog lost poster anywhere and everywhere.”
Emma had even contacted Petlog to report their pet was missing, as they had it microchipped.
For months their distraught grew as they felt Jazz could never be found.
“Some days I just cried”
“My two daughters were so upset, it was absolutely heartbreaking. We felt so sad for so long.” Ms Darling added.

The Darling family wished that Jazz could at least be treated well whilst she was apart from them.
“We were so worried about how she was being treated, whether she was being fed and if she had a dry, warm place when it was cold.”
Eight months later, a Veterinary Clinic in Wolverhampton called Ms. Darling about a black Cocker Spaniel found at the back of the ambulance.
An ambulance worker named Alex found a grubby Jazz at the back of the ambulance during her shift. Jazz took Alex home to get her cleaned and reported to the veterinarian.
Alex had Jazz microchipped checked the next day. The veterinary practice had contacted Emma regarding the dog’s information,
“When my phone rang that day… Never in a million years did I think the vet would tell me they had Jazz! They had scanned Jazz and been able to contact me because of her microchip.” Ms Darling exclaimed.
Jazz was found almost 50 miles away from her home. Alex described Jazz’s condition to me as “Jazz was wet and tired, with algae on her coat,” which made her believe she was dumped in the canal.
Ms. Darling and her family were grateful to Alex for watching over Jazz. She emphasized the help of having their pet microchipped as it helped with the search.
“We didn’t realise – and most people don’t either – about how many dogs go missing or are stolen, and the reality of the situation, until we were living it. My advice to other owners would be to check your microchip details and make sure they’re up to date, just in case the worst happens and to keep your pet safe.”
Petlog encourages owners to microchip their pets as part of National Microchipping Month.
It is not likely for everyone to have their pets found when lost, but having their information chipped will likely make the possibility.
