Diesel the dog has starved to death after his owner deliberately locked him up in the apartment and left, never leaving him any food.
The remains of the dog were discovered by the landlord. It's estimated that he died about two or three days before the landlord found him.
The home was covered in scratch marks all over left by the dog, clearly showing the animal was trying to find food anywhere in the house, or at least try to escape the place, unsuccessfully. There was dog's urine and feces everywhere.
Kyle Springer, a 27-year-old New Brunswick resident and owner of the dog who left the animal for two months without any food, pleaded guilty to criminal charges of animal cruelty.
The landlord's daughter confirmed that Diesel the dog passed due to complete neglect. She said they had neighbors come to them and ask about the dog and his condition, and when the landlords inquired the owner, Kyle Springer lied that the dog is being taken care of by somebody else.
Shockingly, Kyle was also located just five miles away from the apartment where the dog was locked up, and he could've easily checked on the animal. He chose not to, indicating that his actions to let the animal die due to starvation were likely deliberate.
During the court proceedings, local people and those from further away, as well as animal advocacy group, all came to protest animal abuse. “We want jail time,” they insisted, and collected over 40,000 petition signatures calling for maximum penalty.
Asked about the case when leaving the court, Kyle Springer the owner didn't comment and only snickered when getting into his vehicle.
Speaker of the animal advocacy group said that animal abusers typically only get a small fine and get away without any serious consequences for the terrible things they've done, and she wasn't wrong. Currently, Kyle is facing a $10,000 fine or up to 18 months in jail when he comes back to court in April. Until then, nothing will be done.
