You may find yourself in the market for a set of pet stairs as your dog ages, if your pooch is very small or when Fido is recovering from an injury. But, did you know those pet stairs are actually beneficial for every dog? Products like these pet steps from Dallas Manufacturing Company allow your dog to climb to higher places instead of jumping.
THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Studies have found that jumping and climbing will result in joint health issues and arthritis in dogs over time. If your dog is jumping on and off your bed or couch every day – or worse, multiple times every day – it will take a toll on his joints over the years. You may not notice it much when he's younger, but as he ages, this stress on his joints will catch up to him.
The right pet stairs should be strong enough to support your dog and have safety features that prevent slipping and falling. They should also have a stair width and depth that is appropriate for your dog. For example, if your dog has trouble lifting his paws or has very short legs, a smaller step height and depth would be best.
These pet stairs from Dallas Manufacturing Company had a cardboard core, so I was skeptical about their weight bearing ability. As you'll read in a minute, these steps work well for our 75-pound Labrador, and I can even climb on them myself!
Dallas Manufacturing Company 4-Stair Pet Steps Review
These steps from Dallas Manufacturing Company are available in 3- and 4-step models. As you can see, I have the 4-step model. The dimensions of the 4-step style are 26″L X 20″H X 14.75″W.
You need to keep the step dimensions in mind when shopping for the right set of stairs for your dog. The dimensions of these steps are 7″ deep and 14.5″ wide. As you can see in the photo above, these steps are ideal for our Beagle, Molly. However, if you have a senior dog or your pup is recovering from surgery, he may not be able to make the 7″ step up.
These Dallas Manufacturing Company pet stairs do not have sides, so they may not be the best choice for senior dogs or clumsy pups.
As I mentioned, the interior structure of these stairs is made of cardboard. you can see it in the photo on the right. The Dallas Manufacturing Company claims that these stairs can hold up to 200 pounds of weight. I was skeptical at first, but the unique honeycomb design is strong enough to hold me and Molly at the same time!
You can also see the removable cover in the photo above. It is made of 100% polyester and is machine washable. The cover also features an easy carrying handle on the back, which makes transporting these dog stairs a breeze.
Speaking of transporting, the Dallas Manufacturing Company pet stairs only weigh 6 pounds. If you plan to take these stairs along while traveling or move them from room to room frequently, you won't have any trouble. The cover is also equipped with a non-skid bottom.
I have the Brown/Tan color, but you can also get the Dallas Manufacturing Company pet stairs in gray. The 3-step model is currently selling for $24.67 on Amazon, and the 4-step is available for $36.49.
Overall, I do feel that these dog stairs are a good value for the money. However, they are not the safest option on the market. If you're worried about your dog slipping off the side of the stairs, I would recommend finding a product with side rails.
