I always want chicken and rice when my stomach is upset. Something about that combination just always makes me feel a little better when I'm down with a sick belly. I started making these chicken and rice mini muffin dog treats for our Boxer, but they are a great option for any dog – especially one with a sensitive tummy!
Our boxer has a heart condition and she needs to take mediation 5 times every day. One of the medications (which she takes 3 times per day) will sometimes upset her stomach. I keep these chicken and rice mini muffins on hand to give to her when when this happens.
It's hard to find treats for a dog with a sensitive stomach. Most commercial treats have so many additives and fillers that they just make an upset stomach worse. Not to mention, most dogs with digestive issues are also picky eaters.
The best part of making homemade dog food and treats for my girls is that I can cater their meals to their specific needs. A high quality diet is one of the best things you can do to treat a sensitive stomach, although you need to speak with your veterinarian before making any major dietary changes.

Chicken and Rice Mini Muffin Dog Treats Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice (any type – I used white rice, but I usually use wild rice)
- 1 cup diced or shredded chicken
- 3 tbsp. rice flour
- 2 tbsp. dried parsley (you can substitute for 1 tbsp. fresh parsley)
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°.
These treats are super easy to make, but they take about 1 hour from start to finish. Before you can combine the ingredients, you'll need to cook the chicken. I boil it, as it's easiest to shred that way, but feel free to cook it however you like.
As I explain in my video guide, you need 1 cup of dry rice. It cooks up to be much more than that. Just cook it according to the directions on the box, which are usually one cup of rice to one cup of water.
It takes about 20-30 minutes to cook the chicken, and I cook the rice at the same time. You'll also have to cook these dog treats for about 25 minutes, so the entire process takes about 45-50 minutes. They aren't the fastest to make, but you can make them in large batches to freeze for later use.

Once you've prepared the chicken and rice, all you have to do is combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir until they are combined. Then, using a spoon, press the mixture into the cups of a well-greased mini muffin tray. Pack them down tightly with the spoon so they'll stick together when baked.
Back them in the 350° oven for about 25 minutes. As you'll notice in the picture above, the chicken will begin to turn brown as they cook. You'll know when they are done because they chicken will get crispy.
Allow plenty of time to cool, and then you can feed them to your pooch. You can store these chicken and rice mini muffin dog treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. As I mentioned, if you want to make a larger batch, you can also store them in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
