Recipe: Chicken and Greens Skillet Homemade Dog Food

If you've received the okay from your veterinarian to feed your pup a homemade diet, this is a healthy and easy recipe to add to the menu. Finding recipes that are safe and healthy for your dog isn't as easy as doing a quick Google search. You need to make sure that the homemade diet you're feeding is providing Fido with adequate nutrition.

Every dog has his own unique nutritional requirements. Even dogs of the same age, sex and breed still have different needs. This is because their overall health status, activity level and genetics are different. Some dogs are overweight, while others could stand to gain a few pounds. Dogs in different stages of life need different nutrition.

Chicken and Greens Skillet Homemade Dog Food RecipeSimply put, just because a homemade dog food recipe is reported to be healthy for adult Labrador Retrievers, doesn't mean that it will meet the nutritional needs of your adult Lab.

Every dog has individual nutritional needs, and the only way to figure out your pet's specific needs is to work with a veterinarian or trained canine nutritionist. Without enough protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins and minerals your dog's body will not be able to function properly.

It's quite common for homemade dog food to lack the right amount of nutrients, but it's also possible that you could be feeding your pooch too much of a good thing. Don't think that it's okay to load homemade food with nutrient-rich ingredients and everything will be fine. It's not about the amount of nutrients in the food, it's about the balance of those nutrients matching your dog's individual nutritional needs.

So, the moral of this story is to be sure that you work with a professional to figure out what your dog's daily nutritional needs are. If you already have this information and you're looking for a quick and easy homemade dog food recipe, give this one a try.
