Carrie Fisher had a beloved service dog, Gary, who went everywhere with her. He attended red carpet events, film premieres, book signings, and appeared on TV talk shows with Fisher. He was with her when her heart stopped on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Dec. 23., and was even at the UCLA Medical Center with her when she passed on Dec. 27.

According to TMZ, Gary will find a new home with Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd. The arrangement will be a happy and familiar one to Gary, who is already best of friends with Lourd’s French bulldog, Tina.

According to a family source, Fisher always wished for Lourd to take Gary in the event that something happened to her. Billie just wants to be sure the arrangement will work well long-term, that the dogs can get along well, and that she can manage the additional responsibility. If for any reason Gary cannot stay with Billie, he will remain in the family.

4-year old Gary was Carrie’s constant companion, and was adopted as a service dog to assist Carrie with her bipolar disorder. According to the actress, she found Gary at “a very tragic pet store” in New York City.

With a permanently protruding tongue, she stated that though things may be wrong with him, he meant everything to her. He went everywhere with her, and oftentimes she gave him her seat on airplanes while she took the floor.

Gary had already taken social media by storm with his Twitter and Instagram accounts. He has over 70,000 followers on Twitter and 116 thousand followers on Instagram.
