Although dogs have long been popular in Britain, having a dog when you're single may result in more matches on dating apps.
A recent survey found that 67% of single Britons were likelier to swipe right on a potential match if their dating profile had a dog photo.
According to a report, having a dog is associated with being attractive and possessing positive attributes.
Most singles in the UK (81%) use dating apps to find their ideal partner.
Most individuals (61%) think having a dog indicates that someone is ready for a committed relationship.
On the other hand, 49% of people think that dog owners are responsible, kind (48%), and compassionate (45%) people.
The survey was performed on 1,000 single Britons and paid for by the sight loss charity Guide Dogs.
They also found that 6 in 10 people (59%) said they would want to own a dog but are unable to commit because of financial constraints (45%) and full-time employment (40%).
Fido Might Be the Key to Improve Your Dating App Profile
Paul Martin, from Guide Dogs, said:
“It’s no secret that as a nation, we love dogs, and it’s interesting to see that the same trait Brits associate with their favorite four-legged friends – such as empathy, patience, and trustworthiness – are also they consider attractive qualities for their relationships.
Owning a dog can provide a great sense of emotional well-being thanks to the unconditional love they give, which is why they’re also great company and comfort for people when they’re building new connections.”
Last week, a psychologist on TikTok gave her 1.3 million followers dating advice and identified four changes in behavior that can make people appear more confident on a date.
Francesca, who posts as @francescapsychology on the platform, went into detail on everything that might ruin a person's initial impression, such as their breathing patterns and how they fill awkward silences.
Dog Breeds That Are The Most Swiped on Dating Apps
Dating applications like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble were used in an experiment, with the images of one female and one male participant.
The most popular dog breeds were then photoshopped onto each image alongside the man and the woman, and those photos were then featured on various apps on the accounts.
In the Canine Cottages experiment, it was discovered that men most closely matched the female profile, including a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier (121 swipes)
- Chihuahua (110 swipes)
- Mixed Breed (104 swipes)
- Cockapoo (101 swipes)
- Jack Russell (90 swipes)
- German Shepherd (84 swipes)
- Cocker Spaniel (82 swipes)
- Labrador (70 swipes)
- French Bulldog (65 swipes)
- Shih Tzu (62 swipes)
The number of matches from women on the man's profile was nowhere near as high, but the outcomes regarding dog breeds differed.
The profile with Jack Russell in the photo received the most swipes (20), followed by the one with the Cockapoo in the picture (19).
- Jack Russell (20 swipes)
- Cockapoo (19 swipes)
- Labrador (18 swipes)
- Mixed breed (17 swipes)
- German Shepherd (15 swipes)
- French Bulldog (13 swipes)
- Chihuahua (12 swipes)
- Shih Tzu (11 swipes)
- Cocker Spaniel (10 swipes)
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier (9 swipes)
