We tend to project our own likes and dislikes onto our dogs. We don't like to be outside when it's raining, so we assume our pets must not like the rain, too. It's true some dogs actually don't enjoy the rain, but a dog raincoat isn't a necessity all the time; however, they can be helpful in some situations.
For example, if you happen to have a dog with little to no fur, a dog raincoat may be a must-have to keep your pup comfortable and safe in heavy rain. This would be especially important if you live in a region that sees a lot of precipitation each year, like Seattle.
In this article, we will take a look at what canine experts have to say about dressing dogs in all types of dog clothes, including raincoats, and what it means for pets. We'll look at some of the best raincoats for dogs and rank and review the top brands.

Does Your Dog Really Need a Raincoat?
Pet owners like to provide comfort to their dogs by dressing them in different kinds of functional clothes and footwear designed for dogs. But does that really matter?
Alexandra Horowitz, Ph.D., is a cognitive scientist at Barnard College and an author well-known for her research on dogs and the book Inside of a Dog. She says that dog owners who dress their pets in things like raincoats have good intentions. They assume that because their dog resists going outside when it's raining, he must not like it.
However, she also says that we need to look at the behavior of wolves to understand what our dogs may think of wearing a dog raincoat. When they seek shelter from the rain, they do not try to cover themselves naturally to keep themselves from getting wet.
A dog raincoat wraps tightly around your pet. It presses on his chest and back. It even covers the head and legs of the dog. When wild dogs get pressed on the back or head by something, it's because they are being dominated or scolded. Therefore, it may be argued that in these situations, the subordinate dog feels the pressure of the dominant dog. In the article on BrainPickings.org, Alexandra Horowitz says:
“The raincoat might well reproduce that feeling. So the principal experience of wearing a coat is not the experience of feeling protected from wetness; rather, the coat produces the discomfiting feeling that someone higher ranking than you is nearby.” – Alexandra Horowitz, PhD
Her conclusion is that the dog will cooperate with the owner and wear his raincoat, but it's not because he likes the coat; it's because the dog has been forced and subdued into this. He will be less wet in the rain, but it's the people who care more about that.
For Some Dogs, Raincoats Can Be a Necessity
If you have a small breed that gets cold easily or a dog that has little to no fur, and it's time to go outside when it's pouring rain, your dog may especially benefit from wearing a puppy raincoat to shield from the heavy rain and avoid potential illnesses.
AVMA experts say that while a few dog breeds are okay with cold weather and rain, most dog breeds actually are not. In fact, if your dog gets cold in winter or in the rain, it can cause or worsen his medical conditions, particularly things like canine arthritis.
Dogs can get cold just like people can. Rain is one of the causes that will make your dog cold. If it's pouring outside, using a canine-friendly raincoat is advisable. In some instances, just a dog sweater or some type of doggy jacket can be enough, though.
How to Choose the Best Raincoat for Dogs
When shopping around for the best dog raincoats, the main issue will be the size of them. Your dog's raincoat must fit your pooch well to provide all the benefits. So, if you want to outfit your dog with a raincoat properly, there are a few things you need to keep in mind:
- How often does it rain in your area (aka, does your dog really need it)?
- What features do you need in the raincoat?
- How do you select the right-sized dog raincoat that fits well?
- How much of your dog's body should the pet raincoat cover?
If you live in a place like Seattle, where it constantly rains, and know that your pet really needs a doggy raincoat, it's time to decide which features you'll need.
Ask yourself a few important questions. Will you be equipping a dog leash while your dog is wearing the raincoat? Pick the one with an opening for the D-ring on the dog's collar. What will be easiest to put on and take off your dog? This largely depends on the breed.
Now you know what you're looking for. The last step is choosing the right-sized pet raincoat. Follow the measuring guidelines provided on the product's page. Always see other reviews: owners say if the sizing runs smaller or larger than expected. If the manufacturer doesn't offer measurement guidelines, look for a different raincoat.
The Overall Best Dog Raincoats
1 okDeals Waterproof Lightweight Rain Poncho
okDeals makes a great jacket that will protect your dog from a heavy downpour without restricting her movement. It is designed in poncho style – slipped over the head – and covers from high up the neck down to the dog’s buttocks.
This protective shell is made of lightweight vinyl material with elasticized inner neck lining, Velcro belly straps, elastic loops for the hind legs, and reflective strips to keep the dog visible even in low light conditions.
There are four sizes and five colors to choose from. Since the material is soft and lightweight, dogs tend to tolerate the raincoat well. Their owners liked it, too, because it has great coverage and keeps dogs dry. That meant less mess in the car or the house, and it also allowed them to continue with their daily walk even during the rainy season.
The drawstring hood covers the head fully, but it would cover dog breeds with a longer neck up to the lower jaw only. Still, buyers found the okDeals Waterproof Lightweight Rain Jacket Pncho very useful in keeping their dogs comfortably dry from neck to tail. With all the straps and loops to secure the coat, pet owners found it to have a great fit. It stayed on pets well, even with a bit of wind and the dog's usual energy. The back pocket and leash openings are thoughtful additions that owners believe are very useful during walks.

2 RC Pet Products Packable Dog Poncho
This poncho-style raincoat RC Pet Products is made of a water-repellant taffeta shell, with a hood and wide Velcro belt that fastens around the dog’s belly. It is available in seven sizes, starting from XX-small to XX-large. The taffeta material protects from the rain without being uncomfortable or hot. It is lightweight and is perfect for furry or long-haired breeds that would do well in unlined coats.
- Lightweight water resistant...
- Adjustable Velcro waist band...
- Great for long-haired breeds...
- Size Large fits, Length-21...
This product is covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee to replace or repair it throughout your pet’s lifetime. The raincoat conveniently folds into a small bag that’s easy to tuck in your pocket or clip on your pup's leash when you go out for a walk with him.
Pets fear to rain no more – this cute poncho in a blue ducky-print design now allows them to play in the rain while staying dry and warm underneath. Since it’s light and simply designed, the RC Pet Products Packable Dog Rain Poncho does not weigh them down as they do their usual tricks. In fact, there were no objections to it coming from the canines’ side.
The material is very similar to the usual raincoats for humans, except thinner. Pet owners don’t think that the thinness makes the poncho flimsy or cheap; rather, it makes the poncho more comfortable for pets to wear. It’s light, not crisp or hot, and it does not stifle their movements. There’s no plastic smell that owners immediately consider suspicious in anything plastic, and it was easy to pick the perfect fit.

3 Ethical Pet Fashion Rainy Days Raincoat
This yellow rain slicker from Fashion Pet keeps your pooch dry from mild to moderate rain. It’s made of 100% polyester fabric with PVC coating to make it waterproof. It has a flared collar, hood, wide striped belly strap, and leash opening. The reflective stripes on the strap and hood are both functional and stylish.
- STYLISH, COMFORTABLE AND DRY:...
- ENJOY IN EASE: We at SPOT...
- PERFECT FIT: Easily Adjustable...
- SAFETY FIRST: Highly Visible...
Sizes range from X-small to XX-large. Pet owners were really pleased with the material – it’s a real rain slicker. They were very impressed with the construction and the quality of all materials used. It runs small, they say, however, and that sizing is quite off.
Those who got the right size, though, couldn’t be happier with the Ethical Pet Fashion Rainy Days Slicker Yellow Raincoat. They offered a useful reminder – if your dog is at the bigger end of a size range, choose the next bigger size. It worked for them, so it will probably work for you and your dog, too.
Putting on the poncho-style raincoat is no fuss, and it’s great when the dog needs a quick run outside when it’s raining. Potty breaks in the rain can be such a pain for both dogs and their owners. At least with this raincoat on, the dog can run outside on her own without the need for her human to follow her around with an umbrella. For the right breed and with the correct sizing, this is one of the best waterproof dog jackets that’s well-made and a good-looker, too.

4BINGPET Adjustable Raincoat
Fourth on our list is this lightweight poncho-style raincoat from BINGPET that holds up well to rain and light snow. It is made of 100% polyester waterproof material with a reflective strip to keep your dog safe, especially in a dark environment. It’s available in colors of navy blue, orange, and yellow and in six sizes ranging from X-small to XX-large.
- Size: chest girth 19.6-24.2....
- The transparent brim of the...
- Elastic bands around the neck...
- Reflective stripes on the back...
- Comes with a same material...
This raincoat features a drawstring hood, a pocket at the back, and a leash opening. A buckle and Velcro closure allow for an adjustable and comfortable fit. This raincoat has been very indispensable for dogs and their owners who enjoy walking every day, even during the wet season. It's one of the best waterproof jackets for dogs because most owners confirmed that it kept dogs dry and cozy, making their walks more enjoyable.
Buyers say this is a great option as it held up well to the elements, and it stayed in place – no slipping off the shoulder and the like. Tugging on a coat that kept slipping would have been too much of a bother, especially during outdoor activities. The BINGPET Adjustable Dog Raincoat scored approval for not being like that.
The size chart will help you pick the correct size. But a buyer says that you must carefully measure the body length first, then the chest girth and neck girth, before buying this fourth-rated best dog raincoat. Decide on the length first because what good will a raincoat be if it’s short for your dog? Then, the girth of the chest and neck will follow. This is an exceptional raincoat that keeps dogs from getting soggy, but it is imperative that you choose the option closest to your dog’s size.

5 Topsung Waterproof Puppy Raincoat
The fifth choice of the best pet raincoats is the Topsung puppy raincoat, which offers dainty-looking transparent rainwear for smaller breeds of dogs and even cats. It is made of soft plastic that is stylishly simple, with a single color for the edging and the snap-on buttons.

It will look great as outerwear since your puppy’s fashionable shirt or clothes underneath will still show through and look well put-together with this transparent hooded raincoat. The edgings and buttons are available in colors of pink, blue, green, and white.
Sizes range from X-small through large. This is one of the top-rated dog raincoats because it folds and tucks into a small pouch. Breeds like Dachshunds are difficult to dress, especially with coats and jackets that must cover their full length. With their body length, it’s easy to be misled into buying a much bigger outfit.
Owners of this breed, though, were pleasantly surprised that this fifth-best rated best pet raincoat did fit their pooch beautifully. The Topsung Waterproof Puppy Raincoat not only provided good coverage, but everything else clicked to a ‘T,' including the hood that covered the ears perfectly. The hood doesn’t fall back easily – it has to be pushed back if you prefer your pet’s head uncovered – and pet owners consider that as a definite advantage.
Most raincoat hoods slide back with the flick of the head, and it’s pointless to keep pushing them back in place when you and your pet are out in the rain. Buyers say this is a charming raincoat that keeps the rain and wetness away from your furry little ones.

BONUS: LesyPet Dog Umbrella with Leash
This one is listed as last on our list because it is not a raincoat per se, but it does the work of a raincoat and is an ideal alternative if your dog can’t wear one for whatever reason. This is an umbrella made of waterproof PE material by LesyPet. The umbrella opens out to a diameter of 29 inches, has a handle 26 inches long, and a built-in hook-and-chain 8 inches long.

- Easy to install: Step 1 -...
- Size: Built-in leash length...
- Best dog rain gear: Special...
This dog umbrella is available in three transparent colors. The LesyPet umbrella looks like a regular umbrella, except that the handle attaches to the exterior center of the concave instead of the inside. In its normal place is a chain or leash.
It’s such a novel concept that is well-liked by pet owners for their dogs that don’t want to get wet in the rain but don’t take to use any of the canine raincoats. The LesyPet Dog Umbrella with Leash is a win-win solution for them, especially when the dog needs to pee or poop, and it’s raining outside.
Dogs do need a little getting used to having this umbrella around. With a funny thing hovering over them just when they’re about to do potty, who wouldn’t? The transparency of the material will help a lot since your pet will be able to see you. That will be enough to reassure her, and you could see, too, what she is up to. Overall, this is a great non-raincoat shield from wet weather.

30 More Best Raincoats for Dogs (Alternatives)
EzyDog Element Dog Jacket
Price: $61.00
Get It Here
Although it’s a pricey investment, we trust the EzyDog brand and quality; plus, how many raincoats are you going to buy for your dog during their lifetime? This one is available in three colors and sizes, xx-small through x-large. The interior is a nice fluffy fleece to keep your pup warm, while the outside is durable, waterproof, and windproof. We like this jacket best for dogs that don’t like the confinement of “clothing” but who need that extra protection during cold weather!
Gooby Dog Rain Coat with Functional Adjustable Rain Cap
Price: $36.25 (Large size)
Get It Here
Gooby is a brand that we have personal experience with, and while this isn’t the perfect raincoat for all dogs if your dog is a “squinter” (you know, those dogs that squeeze their eyes closed really tightly when it’s raining), you’ll love this raincoat too. The adjustable rain cap is the primary reason why we love this coat, but the fact that it’s easy to slip on and not too confining is definitely a plus.
Reflecta-Glow Reflective Waterproof Adjustable PVC Pet Raincoat
Price: $16.14-$24.99
Get It Here
We’d be remiss not to notice the obnoxious neon green color of this raincoat, but there is a red version if you’re not a fan of eye strain. This is a small to small-medium dog coat that leaves your dog plenty of room to move without constraint. We love the reflective stripes as well as the fit of the hood. This is great for repelling water, too, but the one thing we aren’t big fans of is the elbow-length sleeves, which make it a little more difficult to pull on. Overall, though, this is a nice option for your early risers or late walkers who like to go out with their dogs when it’s still dark out.
Kruuse Buster Aqua Dog Raincoat
Price: $35
Get It Here
If you are looking for something that’s both quality and complete coverage, then the Kruuse Aqua Dog Raincoat is the coat for you. You’ll find that it’s a little difficult to put on, but that is going to be true of any raincoat with four sleeves, and it’s the price you pay for complete protection. We love that this coat is thick enough to double as a snow coat and that the hood is completely removable. What we love most about this coat, though, is the traditional yellow raincoat look that turns your pup into a longshoreman.
Pet Life ® Reflecta-Sport Dog Raincoat
Price: $17.65
Get It Here
Before we tell you why we love this jacket, take note that the sizing is not traditional, with the XXL only being recommended for small to medium dogs. That said, we still love the lightweight warmth that this coat offers and that it incorporates reflective strips for a safe night and morning walk. This is also one of the few coats on our list that incorporates antibacterial properties to prevent stinky buildup inside the lining. You also have an extra pocket with this coat so that your dog can carry their own poop bags, tennis ball, or collapsible water bowl.
Hurtta Pet Collection Torrent Coat for Dogs
Price: $49
Get It Here
From one of the most reputable companies in dog outerwear, the Hurtta Torrent coat is perfect if you live in a climate with constant drizzle and light rain, but it can also hold up to a full rainstorm. The coat fits like a poncho and is easy to put on but isn’t too constraining once it’s on. What we like most about this coat, though, is the high neck that helps to keep your pup’s neck nice and dry without a cumbersome hood. Hooded raincoats are great for some dogs, but in the example of our Labrador, his head is just too wide and his neck too thick for a hooded raincoat to fit comfortably and for the hood to stay up!
Hurtta Rain Blocker, Dog Raincoat
Price: $99
Get It Here
Another quality raincoat from Hurtta is a great option for more active dogs that still need maximum coverage. We like the fit of this raincoat for dogs with a larger body or fuller coat; otherwise, you will end up with a little too much material swallowing up your pup! This coat also has a high neck like the Torrent, so if you have a dog with a bear-like scruff around its neck, you won’t have to struggle to dry that thick fur off once you get home. The one thing we had a little trouble with when it comes to this raincoat is that it can be tough to get on, but, again, that’s the price you pay for such full coverage.
American Kennel Club Yellow Dog Raincoat
Price: Starts at $15.78
Get It Here
A big brand name doesn’t always mean a quality product, but in this case, it does. This raincoat by the American Kennel Club has a nice, cozy lining and a completely waterproof exterior, but what we love most is the full length that extends to cover your dog’s bottom. We love the reflective strip on the back of the coat, although we’re not sold on the hood – only because it seems to be designed for dogs with a shorter neck and a rounder head – think bulldogs rather than pocket pitties.
Medium Dog Bee Raincoat With Hood
Price: $24.99
Get It Here
A smaller to medium-sized raincoat, this is another four-sleeve coat that can be tricky to put on wiggly dogs, but it does offer full coverage, which is great for preventing wet dogs from rolling on couches! Why is it called a “bee raincoat”? That would be because it has two inconspicuous bee wings on the back that are pretty darn cute, as well as two antennae on the hood. We found the hood itself to be less functional, but the cut of this raincoat is perfect for beagles, spaniels, and small hounds, so we had to include it on our list.
FUAMEY Waterproof Soft Fleece Dog Jacket
Price: $35.99
Get It Here
If you’re looking for something camo rather than bright yellow, the Fuamey waterproof soft fleece jacket fits the bill. While we’re not big on the toggles on the neck of this jacket, they do serve to keep your pup’s neck dry and can be overlooked since the fit of the jacket makes it so easy to put on. It comes with a soft, thick, inner padded layer, which provides great warmth and comfort. So, if you’re looking for a simple, good-quality walking raincoat, you really can’t go wrong with this one.
Fabdog Packable Dog Raincoat
Price: $22.98-$38.00
Get It Here
There are multiple things that we adore about this raincoat, and if we had to nominate our favorite coat style raincoat, this would be it. The Fabdog raincoat comes with a built-in pouch that the coat just packs away inside. It comes in nine different colors and six different sizes, and it resembles a child’s coat more than a horse blanket or dog coat. We recommend this coat for lighter showers or drizzle rather than full-on downpours, but then again, why aren’t you ducking for shelter if you are caught in a downpour?
Mile High Life Adjustable Waterproof Dog Raincoat
Price: $24.99
Get It Here
The first thing we have to praise in this raincoat is that it comes in a nice range of sizes that are actually close to the right measurements! You can pick this one up in sizes to fit dogs with a 12 to 25” back length, and the pull-over design makes it simple to put on even when you’re in a hurry. This is a non-confining coat, which is a plus for your more athletic breeds, but it does have one of those pesky toggles at the neck (which, for safety reasons, we generally snip right off). Overall, this is a nice lightweight coat for lighter showers, and it fits bigger pups while costing less than $20, so we’re pretty satisfied!
Topsung Transparent Raincoat Pet Poncho with Hood
Price: $9.99-$11.74
Get It Here
If you’re looking for a quick fix for the occasional rain shower and are on a shoestring budget, the Topsung poncho with a hood is a fair choice. It definitely lacks the quality and durability of some of the more expensive raincoat options, but we can’t all afford to go the whole hog, especially when we get rain once in a blue moon. This is a lightweight coat with a hood to keep your pup’s head dry and cuffed sleeves to keep them in place, with no frills. No, this isn’t the best choice for more active dogs and won’t fit your larger pups, but if you have a small to a small-medium-sized pup and just need some cover for the odd shower, you can’t beat this at $10.49.
RC Pet Cascade Water Resistant Coat
Price: $34
Get It Here
Sometimes, you need full coverage, warmth, and waterproof coverage, and when you do, the Cascade Water Resistant Coat is an affordable and durable option. You can find this raincoat in eight colors, and its sizes accommodate dogs from 5lbs to 120lbs! Aside from the range of sizes and price range, we also love that this is a quilted jacket because it keeps the interior stuffing from shifting too much, which can be a problem, especially if you wash your dog’s jacket regularly. Lastly, if our love for this jacket alone didn’t sell you on it, the lifetime guarantee offered by RC Pet Products should. If the jacket gets damaged during the life of your pet, they will repair or replace it, no questions asked – that’s more than many of the expensive brand names offer!
Beirui Premium Dog Reflective Raincoat
Price: $24.99
Get It Here
This is another affordable thin raincoat option for those of you who are lucky enough to miss those rain showers most of the time. This coat still provides full waterproof coverage and has a wrap-around design, which gives you a little more room to adjust it to fit when your pup gains or loses a little weight. Keep in mind, though, that this is one of those small dog-only options and is only made to fit dogs with a neck circumference of 17”.
Dog Raincoat with Adjustable Belly Strap and Leash Hole
Price: $21.99
Get It Here
You should know by now that we are fans of the BIG dog and are often disappointed when products are labeled in big dog sizes and turn out only to fit a large spaniel. If you’re big dog people like us, then you’re going to love the HugeHounds brand. Their raincoat is made large enough to fit even the roundest, tallest breeds you can think of (Saint Bernard, we’re talking about you!), and we love it! Long enough to cover the full length of your dog’s back and with a hood that actually fits those big blocky heads, HugeHounds really hit the nail on the head with this one!
JoyDaog Premium Dog Waterproof Raincoat
Price: $18.99
Get It Here
Although it looks somewhat unusual, the JoyDaog raincoat is a great pick for your dog parents looking for a breathable, lightweight jacket that isn’t too constraining. With two reflective stripes along the sides, this is also a great option for your late-night and early-morning walkers. This is a full-coverage coat, very ideal for pups that need a little more warmth. It is also a durable option that will see you through the spring and fall or, for those of you in Florida, the winter, too!
HAPEE Dog Raincoats for Large Dogs with Reflective Strip Hoodie
Price: $16.99
Get It Here
When we first saw this raincoat, we were skeptical, to say the least, but after reading other pet parent’s reviews, we opted to give it a chance. What made us question the quality of this coat is that it’s pretty thin and looks quite flimsy, but the thin fabric ended up being one of our favorite qualities. If you’re looking for a dog raincoat that flexes with your dog and doesn’t pull tightly as they move, this is an affordable solution. The only thing we don’t love about this coat is the limited color options – you can choose bright yellow or blue, which doesn’t leave much of a choice for those looking for more feminine options.
Django City Slicker Water-Repellent Dog Raincoat
Price: $49
Get It Here
If you’re looking for a raincoat that won’t restrict but still offers a layer of breathable, waterproof, windproof protection, the Django City Slicker might be a good pick for your dog. While this won’t fit your larger pups, we love the design of this coat for smaller, longer-bodied dogs like your Dachshunds and terriers. We also love the design of this jacket because it incorporates a full belt that wraps around your dog’s waist for a more secure fit.
Ezer Waterproof Dog Coat
Price: $22.58
Get It Here
The Ezer raincoat is a nicely sized coat with bright and reflective fabric that makes dawn and dusk safer walking times for you and your dog. The exterior nylon layer of fabric is waterproof and flexible, while the inner lining is a soft fleece for comfort and warmth. We like the snug fit of the fabric of this coat, but it’s not so snug that it limits free movement, and even the protective collar can be folded down for times when your dog is more active. There is just one color option for this jacket though, so if you’re not a fan of the neon yellow and black combination, you’re out of luck.
WOOFO Full Wrap Design Dog Raincoat
Price: $109.99
Get It Here
This isn’t the raincoat for every dog out there, and you should avoid it completely if your dog is not a fan of being fully covered. If, however, you’re looking for a full-coverage rain and snow coat for your fluffy pup, the WOOFO dog raincoat is a steal at $109.99. The long neck with visor is a much more practical solution to a traditional hood for dogs that have a fuller neck and wider head because it actually stays in place! We also love that the hood section can be removed so that your pup can play more freely while still having their body protected from the rain. We should mention, however, that while the fit of this coat is ideal for dogs with a thick coat, it can be a little baggy for your skinnier pups like greyhounds.
Waterproof Dog Winter Rain Coat with Reflective Strip
Price: $22.99
Get It Here
If warmth and comfort are a priority, as well as protection from the rain, the Bess Bridal coat is an easy-to-fit coat with plenty of color choices. Make sure to pay particular attention to the sizing of this coat, though, because while the chest girth is quite generous on the largest of sizes, the neck sizing is a little small, so it may not be ideal for your Saint Bernard’s or Newfies. Our favorite features of this coat are the simple T-shaped closure around the chest and the zipper closure of the collar and harness access point.
Blueberry Pet Waterproof Dog Softshell Jacket
Price: $35.99
Get It Here
The Blueberry cloak is made more like a horse blanket, which may seem less practical, but it’s actually very useful for dogs that don’t do well with confining clothing. The belted waist is also a good option for thick-coated dogs since it allows a closer fit without being uncomfortable. This is also a great option if you’re working with a very limited budget. Our favorite thing about this coat, though, is the anti-static fleece lining that will keep your pup warm without those winter shocks, and the selection of colors is a pretty nice bonus, too.
SlowTon Adjustable Dog Rain Jacket
Price: $20.99
Get It Here
The SlowTon dog jacket is a solid, middle-of-the-road option that offers great protection against rain and has an easy-to-close hook and loop closure. This is another toggle closure hooded coat, so be careful if you have an active dog that may get its toggles caught. For regular daily walks, this is a quick-fit, lightweight coat available in sizes that fit dogs from Yorkies to Rottweilers. Just keep in mind that this isn’t an insulated coat option, so it’s not ideal for cold climates!
FEimaX Dog Raincoat
Price: $18.99
Get It Here
If bright colors aren’t your style, then this one is for you. Despite the color, this is a nice lightweight, full-coverage raincoat available to fit dogs sized 20lbs to 85lbs. Our favorite feature of this raincoat is the generous space around the hind end. Sure, it sounds peculiar, but if you’ve ever had to clean dog poop off a dog’s jacket, you understand how important it is to have a large enough opening on a coat for potty breaks! We also found the elasticated sleeves to be helpful in providing a more secure fit.
Ruffwear Sun Shower Rain Jacket
Price: $59.95
Get It Here
Ruffwear is one of our favorite brands, and for good reason – they have quality products, and their customer service is incredible. The Sun Shower rain jacket comes in six colors that match other Ruffwear products (a nice perk) and is available in sizes for dogs with a chest circumference of between 13” and 42”. One of our favorite features of this jacket, aside from how easy it is to put on, is that the fabric is completely PVC-free, and the thick collar can easily fold back when not protecting your dog’s neck against the rain.
Ellie Dog Wear Yellow Zip Up Dog Raincoat
Price: $49.99

Another more traditionally styled yellow raincoat, the Ellie Dog coat gives full coverage and protection against the rain with a more customizable fit. The dilemma with the ability to tailor the fit of this coat is that it comes at the cost of multiple toggle ties, so while it’s ideal for solo walking, we don’t recommend putting this coat on your pup during playtime or multi-dog walks.
HDE Dog Raincoat Hooded Slicker Poncho
Price: $22.99

A double-layered nylon and polyester raincoat, this is a nicely designed raincoat with a generous fit, making it ideal for your big, fluffy dogs! We love how breathable this coat is and that the strap around the belly is adjustable, so it can adjust to slight weight gain or loss. The one slight issue we had with this coat is that while the sizing for most of the coat fits nicely, we found the coat to fit a little tightly underneath the armpits, so be sure to add a few extra inches when measuring your pup for a fit.
Petcee Dog Jacket
Price: $9.99

One of our favorite coats for small to medium dogs is the Petcee jacket because it combines Velcro on the neck of the coat with an elasticated chest panel for a snug and somewhat customizable fit without winding up with a coat that’s just too baggy to be practical. We also recommend this jacket if you have trouble wrestling your pups into rain jackets with sleeves. This jacket still has the warmth of a fleece lining without the hassle of those sleeves.
RC Pet Products Venture Shell Reflective, Water Resistant Dog Coat
Price: $22

If you really don’t have much to work with budget-wise and you’re looking for a lightweight waterproof rain jacket, the Venture coat is a no-brainer. Available in five bright colors and a large range of sizes, you do sacrifice the warmth of a loftier jacket, but for dogs that just need protection from moisture (like your Huskies) or dogs that live in temperate but rainy climates, this is good quality and unbelievably affordable choice of coat.
