A dog cooling mat is an easy way to give your pup a break from the summer heat and prevent heatstrokes in dogs.
Canines are not able to cool themselves in summer as effectively as humans can through sweating.
Panting will only get them so far, but products like the Arf Pets Cooling Mat were designed to help.
The inability to dissipate heat quickly poses a serious risk of heatstroke and hypertension in dogs.
Heat stroke is a very serious condition that affects thousands of dogs every year.
All dogs can suffer from heat stroke.
Even if your pet is young, in good physical health, and an active dog, he can still suffer heat-related illnesses.
It’s true that young puppies, senior dogs, and pets with compromised health are more susceptible to these types of illnesses, but owners need to be cautious of any pet that is exposed to extreme heat.
When exposed to dangerous heat, it doesn’t take long for a dog to suffer permanent damage or even death.
Obviously, the best thing that we can do to help our dogs beat the heat is to keep them cool.
Keep your dog indoors during the hottest hours of the day, and make sure that he has plenty of fresh water available at all times.
Cooling products, like the Arf Pets Cooling Mat, are another affordable and easy way to help your pooch beat the heat.
Arf Pets Cooling Mat for Dogs Review
My friends at Arf Pets were generous enough to send me a Cooling Mat to review.
As with all my reviews, I take time to test these products with my own dogs and then pass along my honest opinion to our readers.
When you're in the market for a pet cooling mat, the choices are very straightforward and simple.
However, there are several different designs. The most common options you'll see are:
- Automatic gel cooling mat – This is the most popular, most effective, and most costly option.
These mats are pre-filled with a cooling gel that is normally lower than the outside temperature by 5-10 degrees.
They use electricity to circulate the gel to provide continuous cooling for a period of time.
Some can run continuously while plugged into an electricity source, while others require the charging of batteries and run for an average of 3-4 hours before they need to be recharged.
- Water-filled dog cooling mat – With this type of cooling mat, you simply fill the mat with water and then place it into your refrigerator or freezer.
Once the water warms, you'll need to refrigerate or freeze it again.
Plus, as the water warms, there will be condensation on and underneath the mat, which will make your dog and the floor wet.
- Simple gel-filled cooling mat – The cheapest of all dog cooling mats is the simple gel cooling mat (like the Arf Pets Cooling Mat).
The gel inside the mat simply maintains a lower temperature than the outside air, usually by 5-10 degrees. It recharges on its own when not in use.

The Arf Pets Cooling Mat has cooling effects that last for up to 3 hours on average.
It recharges after just 15 minutes of non-use and doesn't require electricity, water, or refrigeration.
This is the best kind of cooling mat, in my opinion, because you don't have to monitor it to make sure it's still cooling.
Just lay it out for your pup, and you don't have to worry about it.
This cooling works by absorbing your dog's body heat and keeping him cool, thanks to the solid gel interior.
It can also be used indoors or outside.
The nylon construction is 100% non-toxic and very easy to clean.
I just wipe it down with a wet cloth or disinfecting wipes, and the dirt comes right off.
The mat is available in 2 sizes:
- 27″ x 43″
- 35″ x 55″
Both sizes are lightweight and fold up easily for storage or travel.
It would be a great option for kennels, crates, or (as shown in my video review above) used as a simple dog bed during the hottest months.
The gel provides extra comfort in the form of a cushion for older dogs, those recovering from an injury, or dogs with hip and joint problems.
The Arf Pets Cooling Mat can support dogs weighing up to 80 pounds.
I also found out that it works great for humans too!
My children enjoy lounging on the cooling mat with our dogs on hot days or even curling up on the mat by themselves.
You can purchase the smaller size for $59.99 or the larger size for $69.99 (at the time of the review) on Amazon.
They're not the cheapest option, but compared to similar quality products, I think the price is fair.
Based on the product's quality, ease of use, and effectiveness, I would definitely recommend it as a good buy for the cost.
