Giving your dog a bath is time consuming, and it can be quite a hassle. It's especially frustrating when your dog doesn't really need a bath, but he's gotten a little bit of dirt on his paws or in his fur. DIY dog grooming wipes are a nice alternative to giving your dog a traditional bath.
The main reason that I like grooming wipes is for the convenience of cleaning and freshening my dogs' coat without having to give them a full bath. It's much easier to wipe your dog down with a grooming wipe than to wrestle him into the tub and clean up the bath aftermath!
Just remember that grooming wipes are not a substitute for bathing. Neither is grooming spray. These products are simply a grooming tool to help keep your pup clean in between bathing. Regular grooming is still required to keep your dog clean and healthy.
DIY Dog Grooming Wipes and Spray
Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 1 tbsp. mild dish soap
- 2 tbsp. coconut oil
- 2 tbsp. hydrogen peroxide
- paper towels
- airtight container
How To Make DIY Dog Grooming Wipes and Spray
Combine the water, dish soap, coconut oil and peroxide in a large mixing bowl. I use warm water to help melt the coconut oil, but you could also microwave the oil for 10-20 seconds before mixing.
If you want DIY dog grooming spray, just pour the solution into a clean, empty spray bottle. You can use it to spray your dog and wipe down his coat if he gets a little dirty. You can also spray it on, work it through his coat and let it dry. This will keep him clean and smelling fresh between baths.
For DIY dog groom wipes, you'll need the paper towels and airtight container listed above. You can use whole paper towels and fold them or cut the sheets to size to fit into the container. Once you fill the container with paper towels, pour the mixture over them until they've soaked up as much liquid as they can. There should be about 1/2″ of liquid in the bottom of the container.
The paper towels create a thick wipe that works well to clean paws and fur. You could also use napkins, but I don't find them to be as durable as paper towels. You could also add a few drops of your favorite dog-friendly essential oil to the liquid if you'd like it to have a certain scent.
