Recipe: Banana and Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

Making your own homemade dog treats is pretty easy. With a bit of internet research, you can find easy-to-make treats that use ingredients you probably already have in your cupboards. These doggy biscuits are made with banana and peanut butter, making them healthy as well as tasty.

When you use ingredients that you select yourself, you can be sure that the homemade dog treats you're feeding Fido are healthy and safe for him. Try to select the best quality ingredients. I always look for organic, all-natural products that aren't made with any fillers or artificial ingredients.

Most dogs love the flavor of peanut butter, and banana is a great compliment to add to this recipe. Bananas are a good source of manganese, potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, fiber, copper and biotin. They are also low in cholesterol and sodium.

Like most fruits, bananas do contain a high level of sugar. For this reason, they should only be eaten as treats. If fed in excess, bananas can also cause constipation. Adding them to some of your homemade dog treat recipes is a wonderful way to give your pet the benefits of this fruit without the drawbacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup mashed banana
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350˚F.

Stir together the egg, peanut butter, banana and honey in a medium sized mixing bowl. Stir in the wheat germ and flour. Mix well.

You can drop small balls of dough onto a well greased cookie sheet and press them down or you can roll the dough out and use cookie cutters to make fun shaped biscuits. One of the easiest ways to make treats with this dough is by putting spoonfuls into a well-greased mini muffin tray.

No matter what shape you make them, bake the treats for about 30 minutes or until they're browned and begin to crack on the top. Once they have cooled completely, you can serve them to your dog sparingly.
