Cooling dog beds are designed to help air flow through the material of the bed to keep your pup cool when the thermometer rises. There are many different styles and types of cooling beds, so it's important that you think about your dog's preferences when selecting the best option. The Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot is a cot-style bed that features an elevated frame with a mesh cover.
You can find traditional pillow-style cooling dog beds, orthopedic cooling beds and even furniture-style cooling beds for canines. But, the question is, what type of bed will best suit your pooch? Does your dog ‘nest' before lying down? Would he benefit from an orthopedic bed that provides extra cushion for aching joints?
You may think that dog beds are just a comfortable place for your pet to sleep, but they serve more than that purpose. In fact, the best type of dog bedding provides numerous psychological and physical benefits to your canine companion.
For starters, a dog bed provides comfort and support. A bed gets your pup up off the cold, hard floor. This isn't just a benefit for older dogs with joint problems. It's also a great preventative measure for young pets to help ward off hip and joint problems for as long as possible.
One of the best benefits of a dog bed is that it will give your pooch a comfy space that is all hers. Although your dog is a social creatures by nature, she still enjoys resting by herself now and then. Having her own bed gives your dog a place to relax when she wants some space, time alone to chew a bone, or just a quiet place to enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of your family.
Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot for Dogs Review
There are 2 sizes of the Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot available. The medium size holds dogs weighing up to 60 pounds. I have the large size, and it holds dogs weighing up to 90 pounds. As you can see in the photo above, our Labrador fits just fine on the larger size.
I demonstrate the unique, snap together design in my video review above. It's easy to put together and takes just a few minutes. You can also take it apart for easy storage or travel.
The elevated frame is made of powder coated steel, so it won't rust. The frame is covered with a mesh cover that lifts your pet off the ground. The mesh also allows air to flow through constantly – keeping your pup cool during the hot summer months.
I like the raised, curved back and my dogs do too! They enjoy curling up against the back rest. I like it because it prevents my dogs from falling off the edge of the elevated bed when they stretch out.
Our dogs do like to ‘nest' before lying down. They will usually scratch quite a bit before settling in. We've had the Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot for a couple of months now, and the mesh isn't showing any signs of tearing. However, I'm not sure if it's going to hold up to all of the scratching over time.
This dog bed does feature double stitching for added durability, and it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. I also like the adjustable mesh. I demonstrate this in my video review above. There are small straps underneath the bed that can be used to tighten the mesh if it begins to sag over time.
The sleeping surface of the large Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot measures 36″ W x 22″ D x 8″ H. As I mentioned, our Labrador fits on it just fine. In fact, our Beagle will squish herself onto the bed with our Lab sometimes!
You can purchase the smaller Cool-Air Cot on Amazon for $56.99, and the larger one is selling for $69.99 at the time of this review. For a bed of this size, I believe it is a very fair price.
Most dog beds suitable for large breeds are more expensive than those for smaller dogs. Elevated beds are typically more expensive than dog beds that sit on the floor. I expected this large elevated bed to be much more expensive. For that reason and the fact that it is made with quality materials, I believe the Gen7Pets Cool-Air Cot is a very good value for the money.
