There are dozens of different pet food diets, making it difficult to choose the one that will best meet your dog's needs. Some of these diets, like the raw food diet, can be quite controversial. One diet that everyone can agree is wholesome and healthy is the organic diet, and this organic dog food recipe is made with just 4 ingredients.
Hundreds of pet food recalls in the past few years have pushed more pet parents toward feeding a homemade diet. And, why not? Cooking your dog's meals at home is the only way that you can be certain of the ingredients used and how the food is prepared.
Organic foods are grown/raised without the use hormones, antibiotics, fertilizer, pesticides or genetically modified ingredients. These are healthier, but they also come with a higher price tag.
This organic dog food recipe provides top-quality nutrition, but it won't provide a balanced diet for every canine. You should consult your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist before switching your pooch to this food.
They will evaluate your dog and the recipe to help you decide if it will provide proper nutrition. Then, they'll likely recommend supplements to add to make this recipe nutritionally balanced for your dog's individual needs.
I should also note that you can turn virtually any homemade dog food recipe into an organic recipe. Just use all organic ingredients. However, this organic dog food recipe is also made with limited ingredients, making it ideal for pets with food allergies and/or sensitive stomachs.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs. organic boneless, skinless chicken
- 1.5 lbs. organic lean ground beef
- 1 cup organic steel cut oats
- 1.5 cups organic mixed vegetables
Directions
Add the chicken to a large saucepan, and cover it with water. Bring this to a rolling boil. Reduce the heat to medium, cover, and let the chicken simmer for about 40 minutes.
You'll know that the chicken is done when it's easy to shred with a fork. After the chicken is tender, add the beef, oats and veggies to the saucepan. Cover the mixture and allow it to cook for another 10-15 minutes.
This organic dog food recipe will be done when the oats have absorbed most of the water. It will form a thick gravy, which should be very appetizing to any pooch. Once the recipe has cooled, you can serve it to your dog.
The recommended serving size is about 1/2 cup for every 20-25 pounds of body weight, with 2 servings per day. Remember that all dogs are different. Some active pets will need more calories than this, while other lazier dogs may not need as many.
You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. If you're pressed for time, you could always prepare this organic dog food recipe in bulk and freeze for future use.
