Every dog has unique nutritional needs based on many factors including their weight, age and activity level. The only way that you can meet all of your dog's nutritional needs is to create a customized homemade dog food diet. This fruity pork dinner for dogs includes multiple superfoods and beneficial ingredients that will aid in your dog's overall health and well-being.
The term ‘superfoods' is relatively new, but the foods included in this category have been around for centuries. We use the adjective super to describe these foods because they are some of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet.
Some foods included in the superfood category are:
- blueberries
- kale
- sweet potatoes
- carrots
Good news! All four of these superfoods for dogs are included in this recipe. But, while it is a nutritious and healthy recipe, this meal may not be a suitable option for every dog.
Before switching to this (or any other) homemade dog food recipes, be sure to have a discussion with your veterinarian and/or a canine nutritionist. They will be able to tell you if the recipe you're interested in will provide a nutritionally balanced diet for your four-legged friend.
Fruity Pork Dinner for Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 lbs. pork
- 1 large sweet potato
- 1 large apple (cored)
- 2 large carrots
- 1 cup kale (shredded)
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1 cup rice
- 1.5 cups water
Instructions
I make this recipe in my pressure cooker, but you could also use a slow cooker. The only difference is that you will need to cook it longer in a slow cooker.
If you work outside the home, this recipe is a great alternative to meals that you have to prepare daily. In just 1 hour you'll have a fresh, delicious meal to serve your pup. Plus, you can make the food in bulk so you only have to cook once a week or so.
Add all of the ingredients to the crock pot in the order that they are listed above. Secure the lid of your pressure cooker and cook on high pressure for 60 minutes. If you are using a slow cooker instead, add all of the ingredients in the order listed above and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
When the recipe is finished cooking, it will be easy to mix all of the ingredients together and shred the pork in the process. Once the food has cooled you can feed it to your dog.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. If you decide to make this recipe in bulk, you can also freeze it for up to 3 months. The recommended serving size is about 1/2 cup for every 15-20 pounds of body weight.
Keep in mind that more active dogs will need more calories while lazier dogs will not need quite as many. It is best to consult your veterinarian and/or a canine nutritionist before serving this recipe to your pet. They can help you figure out the precise serving amount that will meet your dog's unique nutritional needs.
