Hypoallergenic dog foods are ideal for many different dogs, not just those suffering from allergies.
They can also be a great choice for dogs with sensitive stomachs and those with health concerns that need limited-ingredient foods.
This hypoallergenic homemade dog food recipe avoids using some of the most common ingredients known to cause food allergies.
Food allergies can manifest in different ways. The most common symptoms include upset stomach, diarrhea, and itchy skin.
If left untreated, your dog's quality of life will greatly decrease with a food allergy.
Not to mention, he could become dehydrated from vomiting or chronic diarrhea.
According to the Louisiana State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital:
Some pets develop specific hypersensitivities to components of their diets. The allergen usually is a major protein or carbohydrate ingredient such as beef, chicken, pork, corn, wheat, or soy. Minor ingredients such as preservatives or dyes are also potential allergens
There are plenty of commercial hypoallergenic dog food brands out there, but pet owners can also make their own.
This hypoallergenic homemade dog food recipe uses chicken as the protein source.
If your dog happens to be sensitive to chicken, just substitute a different protein source that your dog's stomach can handle.
