I‘m excited to share this recipe with you all that was sent to me from a reader. As I always say in my video recipes, you can send in recipes anytime to my email – samantha at top dog tips. Thank you Brenda Simpson for sending in this easy dog treat recipe!
As you'll see in a moment, this is a limited ingredient recipe. With just five ingredients, it's an excellent option for pets with food allergies or sensitive stomachs. You can also choose natural, organic ingredients to ensure that you make this recipe as healthy as possible.
Making your own dog treats also allows you to customize them to your pet's individual needs. For example, if your dog takes a supplement you could consider adding it to the recipe. You can also customize the size of the treats to accommodate your dog's needs.
In my video you'll notice that I make smaller treats for our Beagle and larger treats for our Labrador Retriever. You could also make tiny treats to use for training, if you need them.

Limited Ingredient Easy Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of uncooked brown rice
- 1 ripe banana
- 1/2 cup of natural, organic peanut butter
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°.
First you'll need to cook the rice according to the instructions on the packaging. It should wield about 2 cups of rice when it's cooked. You'll also need to smash the banana in a medium mixing bowl.
Add the peanut butter to the smashed banana and mix them together thoroughly. Add the cooked rice to this mixture while it's still hot. As I mention in my video guide, the hot rice will help to melt the peanut butter and make the ingredients much easier to blend together.
Let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes and then add the beaten egg. Mix the entire recipe together thoroughly.
On a well greased cookie sheet, spoon out small portions of the mixture. As I mentioned, you can make larger treats for big dogs and smaller treats for small breeds or senior pets.
Bake the cookies in your 375° oven for 18-20 minutes. They'll be firm, but not hard. The finished treats are soft and moist, making them ideal for dogs with dental trouble. They're also easy to rip into smaller pieces to use for multiple pets or training treats.
You'll need to store the leftover treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They'll keep for about a week this way or you can store them in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
