The Benefits of Using a Dog Stroller
If you're reading this and thinking to yourself, “Are you serious? It's a dog!” then trust me, I used to say the same thing. I used to believe that taking your dog out of the house was solely intended for exercise and socialization purposes, but such is not always the case.
After a while I started talking to people who were pushing dog strollers in the park or around our local mall. I started to realize that there are actually some great benefits to using a pet stroller. And, who says you have to use one all the time? Your pup can still get his exercise!
The obvious benefit is how easy pet strollers are compared to traditional carriers. You don't have to strain your back lugging your pet around in a carrier when you can easily push him in a stroller. Like strollers for human babies, many dog strollers found down for easy travel. This makes them ideal for pushing your pup around an airport or while out running errands.
These products also make it easier for you to get your exercise without putting a lot of strain on your small dog. Small breeds don't have the stamina of large dogs. They can't jog for miles or walk multiple laps around a city block without becoming exhausted.
If you have a small puppy or a senior pet, they likely won't be able to keep up during long walks either. Dog strollers allow you to get the exercise that you need while bringing your dog along too. This can also be a great benefit for dogs who are recovering from surgery or a serious injury.
The best dog stroller can also help you exercise your entire pack (if you have a multi-pet household). If you have a large dog and a smaller breed, like I do, you can allow the big dog to burn all of his excess energy without wearing out your little guy.
They can also benefit the owners of multiple small dogs. It can be difficult to walk multiple dogs who each want to go their own way. You can allow one dog to walk while the other rides in the stroller and then switch the dogs' positions on the way home.
Other benefits of a good pet stroller include:
- keeping your dog safe from aggressive dogs and traffic
- allowing you to bring your dog along on charity walks or 5K races
- protecting your pet's paws from hot asphalt
- keeping your pet safe in crowded areas like subway stations, outdoor events and shopping areas
So, now you know why a pet stroller would be a great item to purchase for your small or medium breed. But, how do you know which model to choose? I've found ten of the best dog stroller options on the market, and I'll explain the features that you need to look for throughout this article.
As I was buying and researching different dog strollers, there were a few features that I knew I needed to look for when I get down to my dog stroller reviews and tests. First of all, it needs to be easy to get your pet into the stroller. The stroller also needs to be easy to push around, even on rough terrain.
Pet strollers should be equipped with tethers to prevent your dog from jumping out, and they should also feature some storage space for all the accessories you'll need to bring along. Of course, quality and affordability were also on my list of must-have features.
Top 10 Best Dog Stroller Choices
1PetZip Mochi Pet Carrier Stroller
The overall best dog stroller
If you've seen my top comparison review video, then you know why I chose the PetZip Mochi Pet Carrier Stroller as my number one selection among all the pet strollers I've bought and tested (its full review here). You get the most bang for your buck with this stroller.
- Protected from any harmful...
- Carrier bag with side pocket...
- Wheels of pet Stroller: double...
- Pet Stroller frame: easy folds...
It's actually a 2-in-1 design, as it functions as a dog stroller and a carrier. The quality can't be beat. The carrier portion of this product is made with durable materials, and the zippers are all double-stitched and very strong. As a stroller, it folds down for easy transport and is very easy to push around.
In my older video, I showed you the unique aspect of this dog carrier. The sides zip off to form a container for the middle piece. You can easily fold the middle piece and place it into one of the sides. Then, the sides zip together to form a carrying case for the carrier that is only about 1.5″ thick! This is absolutely the most versatile dog stroller that I've ever seen, and the carrier is so simple to take along while traveling that I never use anything else.
I love that it has a 360° wheel in the front. You can turn this stroller very easily, and the tires will push through tough terrain. I pushed this PetZip stroller down my driveway when there was about a 1/2″ of mud, and it went through it just fine. I've even taken this stroller on a few well-maintained hiking trails in our area, and I had no problems.
The lightweight design is ideal for anyone that wants to throw this stroller in the car and run errands or if you're planning to go on an airplane, bus or train with your pooch. It also has side pockets and a small bin underneath for storage.
PetZip also thought about us pet owners when they were designing this stroller. It's equipped with a cup holder and a snack tray! Personally, I used the snack tray to hold my car keys and cell phone.
As you can see in the photos, there is plenty of ventilation in the carrier. There are also two tethers so you can secure your dog(s) to ensure they can't jump out if you need to open one of the doors to check on them. It can hold up to 20 pounds of weight, so if you have two small breed dogs it would be able to carry both.
The dimensions of the carrier part of this stroller are 22″ L X 14″ H X 12.5″ W. Be sure to measure your pet before buying any of the best dog stroller products, as they may meet the weight requirement but be uncomfortable size wise.
Unfortunately, PetZip only sells this stroller commercially to retailers. But, it's available in many big box pet stores and a whole bunch of online retailers. It's typically priced between $120-$180. Depending on sales and specials, you may even be able to get it a bit cheaper than that if you really shop around. Considering the fact that you're getting one of the best dog stroller options and a convenient pet carrier, I'd say this is a great buy for the money!
2 IBIYAYA Elegant Retro Stroller
The best dog stroller for multiple dogs
If you're looking for a stroller that to hold two or three small dogs, the IBIYAYA Elegant Retro Stroller (full review here) is my recommendation. This stroller can hold up to 77 pounds, which mean that it's also ideal for medium breeds that need a ride once in a while.

Remember my advice about ensuring that your dog meets the size requirements as well as the weight limit? The dimensions of the cabins are 12.5″L X 24.5″W X 23.5″ H, so your medium breed may be too long or tall to fit comfortably inside.
In my video review you'll see that the top cover folds open to allow you to easily secure your pet inside, and there is plenty of ventilation if you prefer to keep it closed. There is plastic mesh on all sides, which is great for two reasons – (1) it allows you to easy check on your pet, and (2) your dog will have a great view which will help with any anxiety he feels about riding in the stroller.
There are two tethers to keep your pup inside the stroller when the cover is open, it's also equipped with a cup holder. You may have also noticed in my video review that this stroller has a telescoping handle. This is a great feature for our family, as my husband is 8 inches taller than I am.
The ultra lightweight EVA wheels in the front of this IBIYAYA pet stroller rotate 360 degrees for easy turning, and the wheels in the back are large and can easily roll on dirt, sand or in my case snow. I tested this one in the snow and mud. It performed well in a 1/2″ of mud and nearly 3″ of snow!
There is a large storage compartment underneath this stroller to hold enough supplies for at least 3 dogs. It also folds flat, like any of the best dog stroller options should. Weighing in at about 25 pounds, this stroller could easily be taken with you while traveling.
You can find this stroller available from many online retailers. The cheapest price that I could find was about $300. Obviously it's not going to be affordable on every budget, but if you have multiple dogs it is definitely going to be more affordable than purchasing a stroller for every pooch.
3VIVO Four Wheel Pet Stroller
The best budget-friendly dog stroller
Okay, so you can't afford my top two choices. Don't worry. I know that most pet owners are on a tight budget, so I chose an option that will fit into anyone's budget. The price of the VIVO Four Wheel Pet Stroller (full review here) varies depending on the color you choose, but they all run about $50. Not only is it affordable, it's also available in 7 different colors, so you're sure to find one that matches your pup's style.

This stroller holds up to 30 pounds, so it could fit two very small dogs. Don't forget to measure your dogs too. The compartment on this stroller is taller than most, but not very long. The interior compartment measures 19” x 12” x 19.”
As all of the best dog stroller options should, there is plenty of ventilation and multiple zippered access doors. This model also folds flat by simply pulling up on the two release buttons located on either side of the handle. It features a snack tray and cup holder, which is great for dog owners like me who always have items like a cellphone or water bottle that they like take along on walks.
My favorite thing about this VIVO stroller is that it weighs about 13 pounds, meaning it is very easy to carry around from the house to the car or tote around the airport. This one can fold up, too – which is a feature you definitely want to look for if you're planning on doing any type of traveling with your stroller. Both wheels on the front turn 360°, but this one doesn't push as easily on rough terrain as the first two models that I mentioned.
4Pet Gear No-Zip NV Pet Stroller
The best no-zip dog stroller
Many of the best dog stroller options need to be closed with a zipper. While this is a great feature that prevents your pet from using his nose to push the carrier open, it also makes it difficult to secure your dog inside while holding onto him.

The Pet Gear No-Zip NV Pet Stroller secures with an easy locking latch, so you can hold Fido with one hand and quickly open or close the canopy with with other. The entire front of the carriage is encased with mesh, meaning your dog will have a panoramic view of the environment around him.
My favorite feature that this stroller offers is air ride tires. They give some extra cushion to your pet if you're jogging or bumping over rough terrain. As with all of the best dog stroller options on this list, the wheels of the No-Zip NV Pet Stroller can be locked when the carriage is in a stationary position.
This stroller can hold up to 70 pounds. It doesn't fold down, so it's not the best option if you're planning to take it along while traveling. The No-Zip NV stroller weighs 27 pounds. Pair its weight with the fact that it isn't collapsible, and it would be quite difficult to bring this with you anywhere.
5OxGord 3-Wheel Jogger Pet Stroller
The best dog stroller for jogging
One of the most common reasons that pet parents invest in the best dog stroller options is because they want to bring their companion with them while jogging. Unfortunately, most small and medium dogs can only keep up with human joggers for about .25-.5 mile.

If you have one of the best jogging strollers for dogs, like the OxGord 3-Wheel Jogger Pet Stroller, your dog can accompany you on every jog you take. The weight limit on this stroller is 55 pounds, so it's more than capable of holding two small dogs.
At just over 15 pounds, this stroller is ideal for traveling. It does fold down as well, so you can easily throw it in the trunk or cargo hold of your vehicle. There's also a large undercarriage to store any necessities you need to bring with you.
This is one of the best dog stroller options for jogging, but your dog may not like it if he's an especially nervous pooch. There is a large mesh window in the front and a couple of smaller ones on the top and side. However, the visibility with this stroller isn't as good as some of the other options available.
6Flexzion Folding Pet Stroller
As you can tell by the name, this is another collapsible stroller. It can hold dogs weighing up to 30 pounds. While it has a zipper to open and close the canopy, there are doors in the front and rear to make it as easy as possible to get your dog in and out.
- Fold the stroller easily with...
- Large storage basket and cup...
- Convenient front and rear...
- Durable mesh provides airflow...
- Large 6" wheels glide easily...
There is plenty of ventilation on the front and back sides of the Flexzion Folding Pet Stroller, which creates a great cross breeze to keep your pup cool and comfortable. Of course, these mesh panels also make it easy for your dog to see what's in front of him and look behind him to see you if that makes him more comfortable.
There's a cup holder and a snack tray on the handle, and a large storage compartment under the dog carrier. The two double wheels in front rotate 360° for easy pushing, and there are breaks for all the wheels as well.
Unfortunately, this stroller isn't made of the most durable materials. But, with a price of just $49, some owners didn't mind. This is a great stroller for pet owners who just want a stroller to use once in a while, but it's probably not going to last for more than a few years if you plan to use it daily.
7OxGord Pet Twin Double Stroller
This is one of the best dog stroller options for multi-pet owners who want to bring two dogs along for a walk. Instead of putting both pets in the same part of the carriage, each dog has his own compartment. It can hold up to 55 pounds of weight.

- FULL ROTATION: The front...
This stroller is even collapsible, so you can take with you on the go. It weighs in at just over 20 pounds, so it is a bit heavy. However, it would still be manageable to lift into a vehicle or take a long on an airplane, bus or train.
The entire front of the canopy is made of mesh, and it has small mesh windows on the top and back as well. There are breaks on all four wheels, and the durable design of the OxGord Pet Twin Double Stroller is made for city walks or hikes over bumpy terrain.
Because this stroller is wider than traditional models, it doesn't maneuver as well. It's also wider than the average doorway, so you need to keep it collapsed until you get outside. While that's not a deal breaker, it is a bit inconvenient.
8HPZ Pet Rover Heavy Duty Dog Stroller
This stroller is made with top-quality materials including an aviation-grade aluminum frame. The frame is incredibly strong and bend resistant, and the aluminum is very light. The HPZ Pet Rover Heavy Duty Dog Stroller only weighs 15 pounds, which is surprising for its size and durability.
- SUPER TRAVEL-FRIENDLY - This...
The canopy of this best dog stroller is made of a water resistant fabric, which is an added bonus for your pooch if you get caught in a rain storm. This stroller can hold up to 55 pounds of weight. My favorite feature is that the carriage size can be expanded to accommodate 2 dogs or reduced if you're only pushing one small pet.
There is a large storage basket underneath the carriage and breaks on the front and back. Another great feature is the air-ride wheels, and the anti-vibration suspension is also a benefit to nervous pets.
When expanded, the carriage measures 30″ L X 18″ W X 23″H. Believe it or not, when it's folded up the entire stroller only measures 37″ X 26″ X 13″. Paired with its extremely light weight, the HPZ Pet Rover stroller is very easy to transport.
9Pet Gear Roadster Pet Stroller
Not only is this one of the best dog stroller options for small and medium dogs, you can even push your large breed around in the Pet Gear Roadster Pet Stroller. This model can hold pets weighing up to 100 pounds!
- Easy-Locking NO-ZIP entry;...
- Extra-wide carriage provides a...
- 12" Gel-Filled tires with...
- Pet Cabin Size 27 inch L x 20...
- 600 Denier water-resistant...
The interior dimensions are 33″L X 20″W X 21″H, so your large breed dog should be quite comfortable inside. As with any of the best dog stroller options, just be sure to measure before making a purchase.
Like the IBIYAYA stroller that I mentioned earlier, the handle height is adjustable. This is an important feature for me, because the members of our family differ in height. An adjustable handle allows the stroller to be comfortable for anyone to push.
The carriage itself folds flat onto the frame, but the wheels still stick out. The Roadster Pet Stroller will still fit in the trunk or cargo space of a vehicle, but it's not quite as convenient as other models that completely fold up.
10Guardian Gear Double Decker Standard Pet Stroller
As you can see, this stroller has a unique design that allows you to bring two pets along with you at one time. Each dog has his own compartment, so you won't have to worry about breaking up any scuffles during your walk.
- FOLDABLE: Our stroller...
- MAXIMUM AIRFLOW: The stroller...
- DURABLE: Constructed from...
- STORAGE: With a large...
- FULL ROTATION: The front...
The downside is that this stroller only holds 25 pounds of weight. While you could put two dogs in the Guardian Gear Double Decker Standard Pet Stroller, they would have to be very small breeds. There are tethers in each basket to keep your well-behaved pup from jumping out, but you may need to close the top if your dog has a curious side.
There are mesh windows to provide temperature control and ventilation in the event that you need to keep the top closed. There is a storage compartment on the back of the bottom basket and the handle is padded for additional comfort.
The front wheels do turn 360°, but this stroller doesn't push easily over bumpy terrain. The weight limit is also a drawback. Most strollers that are designed for multiple pets are made with more durable materials and can support upwards of 50 pounds.
