Selecting the right dog food for your pet is something that you should not take lightly. You need to have a conversation with your veterinarian about the nutritional needs of your dog's breed and how many calories he'll require based on his weight, energy level and age.
You need to shop for a quality food that fits your budget and provides your pooch with all the necessary nutrients his body needs. When shopping for a new dog food brand, look for:
- Natural ingredients (nothing artificial)
- Quality ingredients (hormone and antibiotic free, no GMO's, no fillers, etc…)
- Where is it made?
- Where are the ingredients sourced from?
- Is the company reputable
You're not going to be able to get all the information you need from the label. It's best to do some research online before going to the store. Take recommendations from your veterinarian, a canine nutritionist and other pet owners, and then check into the brands a bit more deeply by researching them online.

Remember, when reading reviews like this one, just because a dog food worked out for someone else's dog does not mean it will be a good fit for yours. Weruva, for example, is a reputable company that uses top quality ingredients in their dog food products. My dogs enjoyed eating their kibble, but your dog may not – it depends on your specific dog.
Don't just assume that because a dry dog food is made with healthy ingredients that your Fido will gobble it up. Once you find a reputable brand that uses wholesome ingredients, it will still need to pass your pet's taste test. It may take some trial-and-error testing to figure out what works best with Fido's palate.

Weruva uses quality ingredients to make their Caloric Harmony dry dog food. Could it be a good fit for your pet?
Weruva is very concerned with the health and safety of all the ingredients that they use. The company performs peroxide and toxin testing on all of their incoming ingredients, and the protein, fat and moisture levels are monitored every 30 minutes during production.
This is the kind of information that you won't find on the label, which is why it's always important to research dog food companies online before making your final decision.

So, let's talk about how my dogs liked this dry kibble.
For starters, they're used to eating a dry kibble diet. While I do mix it with homemade food, they've always eaten dry kibble as well. We have three dogs – a 6-year-old Boxer, a 1-year-old chocolate Labrador and a 1-year-old Beagle mix – and they all enjoyed this food.
Our Boxer tends to be a bit picky, but she didn't hesitate to this food. The other two have never turned their nose up at anything edible, so I wasn't surprised that they liked all three flavors.
Weruva Caloric Harmony dog food is formulated for all breeds, sizes and life stages.
I do prefer to feed puppies younger than 12 months a food specifically formulated for puppies, but I didn't mind offering this dinner to all of our dogs. No matter what age my dogs are, I always buy a food that offers a small-sized kibble, and as you can see in my video review above, it's true for these three foods.
The kibbles are smaller than a dime, which is perfect for our Boxer with poor dental health.
I should also mention the packaging. Weruva Caloric Harmony dry dog food comes in a resealable bag, and the zipper at the top is strong. It forms an airtight seal and lasts for the life of the bag, which can't be said about all resealable dog food packages.
While I cannot deny that it's a good quality, safe dog food option, it's also very pricey. It's important to feed your dog a good diet, but you also have to be conscious of your budget. Depending on the flavor that you choose, Weruva Caloric Harmony 24-pound bags of dog food range in price from $82.99-$92.29 on Amazon.
That means you'll be paying between $3.46 and $3.85 per pound. Most top quality dry kibble foods fall into the same price range, so it's not overpriced for its class. However, I do understand that most pet owners cannot afford to pay that much for dog food, especially if you have a large breed or multiple dogs.
