Review: Flexpet Joint Supplement for Dogs

Most people have heard of glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. They are the two most common supplements taken for hip and joint health. While they may be effective in pets as well, Flexpet joint supplement is specifically formulated to foster hip and joint health in dogs and cats.

All dogs have individual health needs, but one that they all share is the need for joint support. Some dogs are genetically predisposed to have issues with joint health at an earlier age, while others may not have noticeable trouble with their joints until they are well into their senior years.

FlexPet with CM8 (180 chewable tablets) One thing to remember is that you should always speak with your veterinarian before starting your dog on a supplement regiment. Your dog may not need the supplement that you want to give him or there could be an underlying health condition causing the symptoms that you're concerned about.

Joint pain and lameness are symptoms of numerous diseases, like Lyme disease. You need to be sure that your dog needs dietary supplements before giving them to him. Too much of a good thing can be detrimental to your dog's health. If Fido already gets enough nutrients from his diet, you don't want to give him even more.

Your vet can tell if your dog needs any supplementation to his diet. You'll need to provide details about the food that you feed him including the brand and the ingredient list if possible. If you feed a homemade diet, you'll need to explain the recipes that you prepare for him.

Flexpet Joint Supplement Review

Flexpet Joint Supplement

Flexpet joint supplement is unique. That's what made me want to review it in the first place. It's not the typically glucosamine and chondroitin supplement.

The ingredient that sets this product apart from similar supplements is CM8, or cetyl myristoleate. It is an all-natural ingredient that works to lubricate and reduce swelling in the joints. It's been proven to reduce arthritis symptoms in humans and animals.

On top of its secret ingredient, Flexpet joint supplement also contains a combination of enzymes that has been tested and proven to help your pet's body digest and retain the ingredients contained in the supplement.

I always look for supplements that are 100% all-natural, and this one is. I checked with my veterinarian before switching our dogs over to Flexpet. They have been taking a daily joint supplement, and I wanted to make sure that this would be equivalent.

After given the okay from our vet, I switched all three of our dogs to this supplement. We have a 1-year-old Beagle mix, a 1.5 year old chocolate Labrador and a 6-year-old Boxer. Our Beagle and Labrador both love these tablets; they eat them like treats.

Our boxer is extremely picky about what she eats. In fact, I'd say she is the most picky dog we've ever had. I wasn't surprised that she wouldn't eat Flexpet joint supplements. I struggled to get her to take them, but now I just coat them in peanut butter and she eats them right up.

Flexpet Joint Supplement

As you can see in the photo above, these tablets are not quite as big in diameter as a quarter and are about 1/2 an inch thick. They are flavored with pork liver, so your dog may eat them like treats. However, if not, it's very difficult to hide them in food.

Small supplements can be given with treat pockets, wrapped in cheese or lunch meat, or easily disguised in dog food. These large tablets cannot. If you had a lot of trouble hiding them from your pet you could try to crush them and sprinkle them over his dinner.

Of course, I can't vouch for their effectiveness as I have no way to measure that, but I can say that there were no negative effects in our dogs as a result of switching to Flexpet joint supplements.

Our boxer has mild arthritis and the previous supplements we were giving her helped a great deal. After switching to these supplements for more than a month, I have not seen any change in her progress, so I would say that they work well. I've certainly been happy with the results so far.

One bottle of these supplements contains 60 tablets. Dosing instructions are:

  • small dogs under 25 lbs. (and all cats) – 1-2 tablets per day
  • medium to large dogs weighing 25-75 lbs. – 2-3 tablets per day
  • large and extra-large dogs weighing more than 75 lbs. – 3-4 tablets per day

As you can see, if you have a medium or large dog you would go through more than one bottle of Flexpet Joint Supplement each month. You can order a single bottle on Amazon for $49.95 or 3-pack for $95.90. That's a lot of money if you're going to be buying multiple bottles every month.

We go through three bottles each month in our home just with our 3 dogs. That's a large added expense that certainly won't fit in every pet parents' budget.
