Most people don't need to feed their pets on a regular schedule. If your pet has certain health conditions or is trying to achieve a weight goal, you may need the PetSafe Automatic Feeder to meet his nutritional needs.
Whether you have to feed your Fido on a regular schedule or you just want to keep him on a regular feeding program, automatic dog feeders will make your life much easier.
When shopping for an automatic pet feeder, there are two important things to consider: size and reliability. You need to be sure that the device will provide enough for your dog, it will feed your dog on a consistent schedule, and dispense the right amount at the proper times.
Think about your dog's size and how much food he eats at every serving. If your pet is on a strict diet for health reasons, you need to be sure that you choose a feeder that will meet those specific needs.
Also, keep in mind how often you'll need to be refilling the feeder. Ideally, you will want to purchase an automatic dog feeder that only needs to be filled a few times per week. If you want to save money by buying a feeder with a smaller capacity, you may end up having to fill it daily or multiple times per day depending on your dog's size.
Every automatic feeder model is different – some only serve 2 or 3 meals per day, while others can feed 10 or more meals every day. Similarly, most automatic pet feeders only dispense dry kibble. If your dog needs wet food or eats a raw or homemade diet, you'll have a very limited number of automatic feeders to choose from.
This PetSafe automatic feeder only dispenses dry kibble, so it won't be an option for dogs that eat moist food. However, it offers a few unique features and can be controlled very easily through a free smartphone app.
PetSafe Automatic Feeder for Dogs & Cats Review
It can be challenging to find automatic feeders that are suitable for large breeds. This PetSafe automatic feeder can hold up to 24 cups of food. That would feed even the largest breed for at least a few days before you'd have to refill it.
As I demonstrate in my video review above, the PetSafe app is easy to use and allows you to feed your pet anytime from anywhere. The app is compatible with Alexa, Apple, and Android products.
It does require an iOS device of 12.0 or later or a compatible Android device of 9.0 or later. The app allows you to schedule up to 12 meals daily that can be dispensed from 1/8 cup to 4 cups to fit your pet's needs.
If you need to temporarily stop the feeder from dispensing, you can turn off the schedule in the app at any time. It also notifies you when the dog feeder is low on food or empty.
In my video review, you will see the inside of the feeder. The conveyor is equipped with a slow feed option and features an anti-jam design. The slow-feed setting dispenses meals larger than 1/8 cup in small amounts over a 15-minute period of time.
The PetSafe automatic feeder works with kibble up to ¾” in diameter. One of my favorite things about this automatic dog feeder is that the lid, hopper, bowl, and bowl holder are all top-rack dishwasher-safe for convenient cleaning.
There is also a battery backup for unexpected power outages, so you never have to worry about your pup missing a meal. This is incredibly important if your dog has a medical condition that requires eating on a strict schedule.
You can purchase the PetSafe automatic feeder on Amazon for $129.95. I know that doesn't fit into everyone's budget and may seem quite expensive to you. However, if you compare the cost of this feeder with other similar products, you'll see that it is actually a very reasonable price.
All in all, I'd say this is a reasonable price for the product. It's made with quality materials that are durable, so I expect that it should last for many years. If an automatic feeder is a necessity to keep your pet healthy, it's certainly a good value for the money.
