A driver in Colorado attempted to switch places with his dog to escape a speeding ticket and DUI arrest.
The car cruised from Las Animas to Pueblo when it got lost in Springfield at 11:30 pm last May 15.
An officer from the Springfield Police Department pulled over the car after it sped 52 mph over the area's speed limit of 30 mph.
When the officer finally approached the driver, he watched how the driver attempted to switch places with his dog, who was in the shotgun seat.
“The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving,” the police said.
The officer had also observed clear signs of significant intoxication from the driver, and when asked about his alcohol consumption, he ran away.
Shortly after, he was caught a few yards away from the vehicle.
“He was intoxicated,” the police officer narrated. “He did not make it far. The male party was apprehended quickly within about 20 yards of the vehicle.”
He was transported to the hospital for medical procedures before he was sent to jail.
Aside from the charges of speeding, DUI, and resisting arrest, Springfield Police also found the driver to have two more active warrants of arrest in Pueblo.
As for the dog, it was given to an acquaintance of the driver to take care of while he was in jail.
“The dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning,” Springfield police wrote in their Facebook post.
